Cornwall Insight specialises in research, analysis, consulting, and training in the energy markets, and we are seeking an experienced Senior Energy Consultant to join our Irish Consultancy team.
The position:

In this role you will originate and lead on the management of new and existing consultancy projects, identify opportunities and then support the development of our services in the Irish markets. You will deliver professionally to clients’ requirements, on budget and time, while identifying opportunities to upsell current products and market need for new products.

You will be required to support the wider team with the origination of our services through working with both established Cornwall Insight clients and your existing network of Irish (Northern Ireland and Ireland) market participants. You may also work with GB based companies with Irish energy interests, and on projects related to the GB market. You will undertake business development activity to expand Cornwall Insight’s presence and customer base across the Irish market, and will also work closely with colleagues in the other Cornwall Insight offices, sharing insight and procuring support as necessary.
As a Cornwall Insight Senior Consultant, you will be working with a diverse range of clients and on topics and issues that are at the forefront of market change. Knowledge gained will be shared with colleagues across the business to ensure insights are deployed across the company’s service delivery.
The ideal candidate will have previous energy market experience, with a deep understanding of the Irish wholesale electricity market and its decarbonisation pathway. In addition, cross sectoral knowledge of the retail, demand-side and the policy and regulatory landscape are desirable. They will have strong analytical and research experience, highly developed verbal and written communication skills, excellent presentation skills, and proven problem solving capability which will enable them to identify and then clearly present solutions to clients. They should be comfortable managing several workstreams simultaneously, and to deadlines.

The location:
This role can be based in Dublin with the flexibility to work remotely as part of our hybrid working policy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Business development
    • Leading on the origination of new consultancy work with support from the team, through meeting potential customers, attending industry events, building external networks and effectively communicating with new business prospects
    • Developing propositions to meet client needs
    • Preparing or editing customer proposals and pitch materials
    • Developing strong customer relationships, growing our position as the “go to” advisor
    • Building industry networks to raise Cornwall Insight’s presence across Ireland and Northern Ireland, and to develop working relationships with existing and potential customers
    • Assisting team members with the development of our services.


  • Project delivery
    • Delivering high quality outputs to challenging timescales which meet client requirements
    • Project management and leadership of a range of projects, including large and strategic (£50k+) projects, using resource from across Cornwall Insight for efficient delivery
    • Sharing best practices beyond GB consulting team, both to other teams in GB and consulting teams in other markets
    • Adhering to the processes for management reporting, invoicing and quality assurance for consultancy projects
  • Leadership
    • Line management of at least one analyst, supporting their personal development and well being
    • Proactively create development opportunities for all team members
    • Deputise for and support Principal Consultant as required
    • Support recruitment activity for new hires

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

  • Educated to degree level – with a desire to use specialist expertise and knowledge to inform commercial, policy and regulatory developments
  • 5+ years of experience in the Irish energy market and/or a consulting role
  • Strong initiative, self-motivation, and time management skills
  • Excellent written English and Microsoft Package experience
  • Proactive and highly motivated to meet customer requirements
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisation skills
  • “On the ground” experience in renewable power generation with a developer, asset operator or investor (desirable but not essential)
  • Experience of the grid connection process in Ireland (desirable but not essential)
  • Knowledge of the GB energy market (desirable but not essential)
