St. Joseph's Foundation is a voluntary organisation providing comprehensive services for people with intellectual disabilities. Founded in 1968 the Foundation has grown through continuously responding to the needs of people with intellectual disabilities and their families.The Foundation presently provides early intervention, pre-school, school, adult day services, residential, respite care, elder care and home support in the North Cork and South West Limerick region. We have day Services, Adult Rehabilitative ( RT) Programme in Charleville,Mallow, Mitchelstown, and Liskennett with residential Services in Co Limerick; Ballylanders, Croom, Ballyagran, Bruree, Kilmallock, Dromcollogher and in Co Cork; Charleville, Dromina, Newtownsahndrum,Buttevant and Newmarket.

Senior Grade Supervisor

Permanent Position/(Monday to Friday - 35 hours per week)


The successful candidate will initially have primary responsibility for the supervision of service users with ASD participating in a New Directions Day Service Programme. The person appointed will have responsibility for the supervision of staff.

The ideal candidate will have the;

  • A QQI accredited Diploma/ Degree in Applied Social Studies/ Social Care or a qualification in Nursing ( RNID) orSocial Work (Degree) or a Degree in Training and Education.
  • The ability to work on his or her own initiative and supervise Service Users/ Staffin a Day Service setting.
  • A minimum of three years post qualification experience in the area of Intellectual Disability/ASD.

Experience of supporting service users with behaviours that may challenge.

  • Knowledge/understanding of the New Directions Programme for Adult Day Services

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE:Senior Grade Supervisor

REPORTING TO:Adults Day Service Manager / Person in Charge

INITIAL HOURLY35 hours per week Monday – Friday

COMMITMENT:

JOB GOAL:

To implement the New Directions Programme, by delivering an Adults Day Service Programme operating from a Service Location in St. Joseph’s Foundation. To support service users with ASD to develop a range of occupational, educational, social and recreational skills with a view towards increasing their independence, knowledge and sense of achievement. The supervisor is responsible for planning, developing, implementing and reviewing the individualised programmes and associated work schedules within the Day Service Unit in consultation with team members and in line with the ethos of the Foundation

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1.To provide variety in programme activities which facilitate individuality within the programme group.

2.To use initiative, imagination and creativity in implementing programmes.

3.To assist and support the group when required but to aim to encourage independence and initiative in the service users.

4.To ensure that service users are involved in any decision making process relevant to them.

5.To respect the dignity and welfare of service users and their families /carers.

6.To know each service user individually and to listen to and help them with their problems and concerns if needed.

7.To make suggestions on existing and future training and care programmes.

8.To supervise Basic Supervisors and Health Care Assistants as assigned.

9.To monitor service users attendance, timekeeping, behaviour and participation in the programme activities and to review programme activities accordingly.

10.To review the programme activities regularly in order to ensure participants gain maximum benefit from same.

11.To prepare reports as required.

12.To attend meetings appropriate to your role as supervisor.

13.To liaise with other supervisors within St. Joseph’s Foundation, and from other agencies where appropriate.

14.To monitor and discuss service users progress with other staff i.e. the multi-disciplinary team, and to keep such records as may be required by the line manager.

15.To acquire various resource materials as appropriate.

16.To assist in the personal care of service users where appropriate. (i.e. clothing, feeding, toileting and general hygiene)

17.To help schedule and attend PCP Meetings. Such meetings may be held outside working hours.

18.To attend individual Service Users Strategy Meetings and relevant Residential House MDT Review meetings, when scheduled.

19.To work as part of a cohesive team where work may be of a flexible nature.

20.To drive Company vehicles as required.

21.To act as Key Worker to individual service users as assigned.

22.To foster involvement of Service Users support network e.g. carers, parents and/or siblings.

21.To attend courses/seminars/meetings as requested an approved by the Day Services Manager.

22.To ensure the environment is comfortable and pleasant for all.

Health & Safety

  • Make oneself aware of the Foundation’s duties and the employee’s duties under the Safety, Health & Welfare at Work legislation.
  • To adhere to health & safety requirements within the Day Service Location
  • To ensure all incidents/accidents/near misses are reported and documented using on-line reporting system.
  • Ensure that all faulty equipment is reported and repaired.
