Summary of Role:

Within Anthesis, Climate Neutral Group (CNG) helps organizations to get insight in their CO2 emissions, to reduce their emissions, to offset their residual emissions and to substantiate their climate neutral claims through our Climate Neutral Certification Programme.

Climate Neutral Group (CNG) is an organization with a clear purpose: to enhance the Net Zero journey to combat climate change. Since its foundation in 2002, CNG has been stimulating organizations in Climate-Neutral entrepreneurship: from A to Zero CO2 emissions. Early 2022, CNG merged with Anthesis Group.

The role of Insetting Project Manager is a cross-departmental function, linking the activities of CNG’s Certification Team and CNG’s Carbon Project Development Team. This person reports to the Certification Team Manager.

CNG’s Carbon Project Development Team is at the forefront of developing and managing carbon offset projects in renewable energy, waste management, agriculture, forestry and Nature-Based Solutions. The team guides project owners and developers all the way from project inception to the issuing of carbon credits in line with official carbon standard, mainly Gold Standard for the Global Goals and Verra’s Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS).

CNG’s Certification Team has developed and is responsible for the implementation of CNG’s Climate Neutral Certification Programme. This climate neutrality programme is unique in the sense that it is the first scheme that:

  • enforces gradual reduction of greenhouse gases through ambitious Annual Reduction Targets;
  • collaborates with 3rd party, independent and accredited Certification Bodies (CBs) who check if these targets are really achieved;
  • is endorsed by ISEAL, the overarching organisation overseeing the performance of high-quality certification schemes;
  • and, finally, seeks innovative approaches to achieve the reduction targets, for instance through insetting.

Increasingly, CNG sees market interest for the development of insetting projects (as an alternative to offsetting). As such, CNG has currently initiated several insetting pilots to test its insetting proposition. Based on the outcome of these pilots, the Certification Team will develop an Insetting Standard, so that reductions achieved through insetting projects can be allocated to the reduction targets of clients certified under the Climate Neutral Certification Programme.

Key Requirements:

  • A relevant Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, ideally in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Agriculture Studies, Sustainability-related disciplines or similar
  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in Carbon asset development with a proven track record in Project Design Document (PDD) writing, including managing the full validation, monitoring, verification and issuance of projects; OR Climate and environmental impacts throughout food supply chains from farm to fork;
  • In depth knowledge of International carbon standards i.e. VCS (Verra), Gold Standard for the Global Goals and/or CDM; OR Developments in terms of the international carbon market and (inter-) national environmental policy (including Greenhouse Gas Protocol, corporate scope 1,2,3 GHG inventories, ISO 14064/65/66- family, Science Based Targets and Net Zero);
  • Self-starter and able to identify and seize opportunities in a complex environment;
  • Proven knowledge and network in the relevant fields;
  • Excellent oral and written skills in English
