Gibbs and Cox is seeking a Naval Senior Structural Designer to join our organization.

Location: Newport News, VA

As a member of our highly collaborative multidisciplinary Ship Design team, you will be responsible for producing & checking detailed Structural Functional 2D Drawings, Detail 3D models and 2D Assembly drawings extractions using requirements documents, ship specifications, standards and regulatory body requirements as defined in the requirements section below for Naval, Coast Guard, Commercial ships. Essential responsibilities and activities include but are not limited to:

Primary Responsibilities

  • Utilizing ShipConstructor to develop Structural 3D models based on Functional Drawings and/or redlines associated with change paper, develop 3D Foundations for equipment, develop Structural Assembly Drawings for Primary Structure and Foundations.

  • Perform Naviswork Ichecks to ensure Interference Free 3D Structural Models

  • Preparing accurate and detailed designs, free form surface models and/or drawings based on concept sketches, photographs, or clearly stated functional requirements or appearances.

  • Working closely with our clients, naval architects and engineers to produce high quality, detail ship design products and drawings.

Basic Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance.

  • Education: Associates Degree or 10+ Years of relevant experience in lieu of an Associate's Degree.

  • 10+ Years' Experience with Structural Design, 3D Model Development, 2D Drawing Development & Checking.

  • Proficient in AutoCAD and ShipConstructor.

  • Knowledge of standards and regulatory body requirements is a plus.

  • Demonstrated proficiency of drafting methods, procedures and techniques.

  • Experience in drafting methods, procedures and techniques.

  • Must be able to work some overtime as required.

  • Strong MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint Skills Required.

  • Excellent Oral, Written and Presentation Skills.

  • Strong Time Management and Organization Skills as an Independent Contributor.

  • Demonstrated Interpersonal Skills as a member of a Collaborative multidisciplinary team.

  • Must be able to travel and work overtime as required.

  • Physical: General Office Setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Must have Structural Design experience on Naval and/or commercial Shipbuilding programs.

  • Must have experience with ShipConstructor and AutoCAD.

  • Must know how to develop 3D models and 2D Detail Drawing Extractions in ShipConstructor.

  • Must have experience with PDF Editing Programs (Bluebeam Preferred).

  • Must have prior knowledge of/or hands on experience with Shipyard Production/Fabrication practices

  • Must have knowledge of/or hands on experience with welding and associated symbols

  • Knowledge of ShipConstructor functions such Hull Module, Product Hierarchy, Nesting, Profile Plots & Reports

Pay Range:

Pay Range $66,300.00 - $102,000.00 - $137,700.00
