THE OPPORTUNITY
Working within the highly technical Platform Core team, this role is primarily working with our backend technologies in an agile manner. This role is for you if you enjoy lifelong learning, you are technically-minded, enjoy developing top quality code, are driven to constantly seek out improvements and you collaborate across teams: bringing the very best software development approaches and techniques to bear. We’re looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer who wants to help our team become even better, as it grows.
Potential technology stack includes: Java, Messaging-related toolsets, JMS, Apache Camel, Kafka, Spring, RESTful webservices, AWS, RDBMS, Docker, Tomcat, JMeter, HTML, ActiveMQ, Jenkins, Sonar, Maven, Git and many more.
ABOUT THE TEAM
We've based the Platform team in Dublin, with teammates and stakeholders in the US and Belarus. Our job is to drive a continuous refreshment and enhancement of Workhuman’s technology stack.
Today we are looking to scale out Workhuman’s enterprise messaging capabilities (e.g. considering tools such as Kafka), tomorrow we will be focused on a new and potentially low level technical challenge.
Here’s a sample of recent technology enhancements that we have looked at:

Proof-of-concepts for new technologies/approaches running on AWS.

Rolling out a new ActiveMQ messaging cluster.

Moving our core technology stack onto Spring 5 and Spring Boot.

Tomcat heap tuning.

Introducing session clustering on Tomcat (and creating a new deployment process with the DevOps team).
YOU WILL

Work with the distributed Platform development team, carefully developing top quality solutions in the Java ecosystem that will enhance our SaaS platform capability.

Have knowledge of industry best practices and be keen to push our coding standards and software delivery processes to higher levels.

Contribute to sprint planning & backlog refinement sessions, daily stand-ups, code reviews and retrospectives

You have 5+ years of hands-on software development experience

You have years of production experience in backend enterprise application development with some of the following: Java, messaging tooling (such as JMS, ActiveMQ, Kafka, Apache Camel), Spring IoC, Spring Security/Cloud/Boot/MVC, Servlets, JDBC, Web development, Maven.

You have experience in development of RESTful Web Services and may have also used AWS services and Docker.

You have good Database application development experience, either with SQL or no-SQL databases.

You have experience with automated testing frameworks and knowledge of Linux and shell scripting is an advantage. Front end development knowledge (e.g. HTML, Javascript, CSS, React) is useful, but not crucial for this role.

You have experience with git or other version control tools.
