Zachry Group is currently looking for a talented and self-motivated Senior Electrical Designer to join our Engineering Department in Omaha, NE. This is a great opportunity to get involved on challenging and interesting design projects for various clients within the energy & chemicals industry.

RESPONSIBILITIES

From project scope general guidelines, plans, designs, and develops electrical construction drawings for various projects.

Performs non-routine and complex assignments involving responsibility for planning and conducting a complete project of relatively limited scope or a portion of a larger more diverse project.

Selects and adapts plans, techniques, designs, and coordinates the work.

Reviews, analyzes, and integrates the technical requirements and design approach.

Review work by others for technical accuracy and satisfaction of requirements.

May be designated as the technical services design lead to coordinate work on assigned project.

Provide field support including field verifications for retrofit applications, as-built documentation, on-site procurement, and installation supervision.

Prepare engineering drawings and schematic of varies electrical systems and components.

Utilize sketching and CAD Programs (AutoCAD and MicroStation)

Working knowledge of lighting and power design, cable tray, and duct bank layouts and grounding design.

Prepare sketches of ideas, detailed drawings, or illustrations, using drafting instruments, or computer-aided design equipment.

Discuss findings with engineering, marketing, production, or sales departments, or with customers, to establish and evaluate design concepts for manufactured products.

Modify and refine designs, using working models, to conform to customer specifications, production limitations, or changes in design trends.

Direct and coordinate the fabrication of models or samples and the drafting of working drawings and specification sheets from sketches.

Evaluate feasibility of design ideas, based on factors such as appearance, safety, function, serviceability, budget, production costs/methods, and market characteristics.

Present designs and reports to customers or design committees for approval and discuss need for modification.

Research production specifications, costs, production materials and manufacturing methods, and provide cost estimates and itemized production requirements.

Develop a complete set of electrical construction drawings utilizing 2-D and 3-D CADD skills with the ability to work in and reference 3D models.

Must be able to accurately draw complex electrical drawings from sketches or specifications using appropriate terms, procedures and drafting standards

Exercise independent judgment by utilizing the correct design criteria based on knowledge from vendor data and project scope.

Check drawings for accuracy including dimensions, spelling, drafting standards and completeness.

Review manufacturer’s drawings and other discipline drawings and any existing plan drawings for physical interferences.

Communicate with the project engineer and other disciplines to resolve any design problems with the manufacturer’s drawings or interferences.

Advise, assist, and occasionally directs drafting personnel of a lesser grade in performance of their assigned duties.

Assure the company quality assurance procedures are followed in completion of assigned tasks.

Associate Degree in Drafting/Design/Engineering Technology or equivalent job-related experience.

• Must have 10 years’ experience in engineering drafting and design practices, in addition to educational requirements.

• Demonstrate the ability to effectively utilize various computerized design/drafting software applications according to project requirements.

• Knowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation is essential.

• Demonstrate thorough technical knowledge and design practices of electrical design.

• Must be able to understand and verify applicable electrical design criteria and is familiar with the construction industry standards.

• Must have a good working technical knowledge of other discipline interfaces and the ability to perform calculations to document design decisions.

• Overtime work may be required.

• Occasional periods of field/office work entailing travel.

• May be required to work in an industrial plant environment.

• Must be proficient in operating a PC based computer and general office software.

• Must have experience using sketching and CAD software.

• Good Communication Skills (Active Listening, Verbal and Written)

• Vocational or Trade School Education

• Related on-the-job experience

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Employee will be required to communicate in person, via telephone, email, use of arm/hand steadiness, manual dexterity, finger dexterity, multi limb coordination, oral expression, and comprehension. May be required to lift, carry and move objects safely.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work will be in a general office environment operating and functioning in a fast-paced work environment. Occasionally required to work in an industrial location where noise levels will be moderate to high. Job sites may contain the following: light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment and tools, people standing, walking, sitting, signaling, and talking. Noise levels vary and may include bells, whistles, and alarms.
