Staff Nurse – Radiology Department

(Permanent Transfers (19.5 Hours) Monday to Friday)

The Staff Nurse is a member of a multidisciplinary team and is responsible for the delivery of nursing care within an evidence-based framework. He/she is required to provide and maintain a caring, efficient and professional nursing service meeting the needs of patients and their families. Responsibilities -
The post holder will be responsible for;

  • The radiology nurse will provide care for patients undergoing radiology treatments and is involved with the assessment, planning, and care of patients who undergo diagnostic, interventional, and therapeutic procedures.
  • The radiology nurse will have a high level of technical expertise and knowledge of radiologic science and/or willingness to be learn same
  • The Radiology RN will gain and maintain an excellent working knowledge of current radiology technology and techniques, as it applies to patient care
  • The radiology nurse will assist the radiologist in various radiology procedures by preparing patients beforehand by explaining the process to them, often involving interventional procedures which may include conscious sedation, checking their vital signs and administering medications.
  • The radiology nurse will monitor the patient’s condition pre, Intra and post, while the radiology procedure is taking place and the assist the radiologist in performing the procedure.
  • The Radiology RN will execute a combination of safe practices and precautionary measures whilst working with or near radiation to maintain radiation safety
  • The Radiology RN must maintain all mandatory training including BLS and medication management competencies, with regards to an emergency within the radiology department
  • Practice nursing according to the Code of Professional Conduct as laid down by the Nursing Board and Professional Guidelines.
  • Follow appropriate lines of authority within the Nurse Management Structure.
  • Deputise for the CNM 2 as appropriate


Eligibility Criteria -
Candidates:

  • Must have current, full registration on the general division of NMBI
  • Experience in the acute hospital environment within last three years is essential
  • Up to date mandatory training
  • Specialist area of Radiology Department – Experience desirable
