Stantec has an immediate need for talented, team focused entry level Bridge Structural Engineers looking to challenge themselves on a professional level on a variety of transportation projects. We are looking for Bridge Structural Engineers to excel in working in a team environment and have a passion for the work that they do. The successful candidates will join a growing team of transportation professionals and contribute to the design component of roadway and bridge projects throughout Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. Additionally, they will assist with bridge inspection by performing inspections along with writing and reviewing inspection reports. The ultimate goal is to develop a well-rounded candidate who can grow in design knowledge and responsibility.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Most of the work will include bridge design and inspection projects for departments of transportation and municipalities in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
- Key design duties include preparation of design calculations, plans, CAD drafting, and construction cost estimates while assisting the project manager to develop special provisions and specifications for DOT and Municipal clients.
- During construction, tasks will include the review of Contractor submittals and preparing responses to requests for information under the guidance of a more senior engineer.
- Responsibilities would include the evaluation of existing structures and development of load ratings.
- Position also entails preparing engineering reports and technical studies, and assisting on other projects, as needed, including participation in roadway and site civil design activities.
- Performs inspection of simple and complex bridges along with preparing the inspection reports.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting, engage in creative and critical thought, and effectively communicate ideas.
- EIT is preferred.
- Experience with AASHTO Bridge Design Specifications is required.
- Experience with Bridge Finite Element Models is required.
- Experience with MDOT SHA, MDTA, and VDOT design criteria and requirements is preferred.
- A working knowledge of MicroStation or AutoCAD is preferred.
- Bridge load rating experience preferred.
- Understanding of national and state bridge inspection methods, evaluations, and report preparation is preferred.
- Successful Completion of FHWA/NHI Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges training course is preferred, but not required.
- Ability to travel within the Maryland, Virginia, and District of Columbia area.
- Ability to climb ladders, and work at heights using various bridge inspection access equipment.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with structural emphasis. Master’s degree with structural emphasis is preferred
- Inspection experience including large complex bridges and bridges with fracture critical members is preferred, but not required.
- Valid driver's license.
Position will work in an office setting and require field work.
Typical office environment, to be in person or virtual, working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
