Job Summary:

Provides support and resources for students for the Palm Desert Campus (PDC) Student Success Studio (S3), within the Office of Academic Success and Undergraduate Advising (ASUA).

Major duties and responsibilities:

Program Administration

  • Coordinate workflow and daily operations of the Student Success Studio (S3) at Palm Desert Campus (PDC).
  • Provide lead work direction for academic coaches and tutors.
  • Organize semester schedule based on tutors (ISAs & GAs) availability and course subject offerings. Upload schedule into web application. Support the ongoing maintenance of appointment schedules in the online appointment scheduling program each semester.
  • Utilize university dashboards to identify high DFWI courses to make informed decisions regarding course subject offerings for tutoring support.
  • Collect and verify timesheets from tutors and student assistants, including work-study student assistants, and submit verified timesheets to the Academic Centers for Excellence (ACE) Director for approval. Report hours worked to Academic Success and Undergraduate Advising (ASUA) budget analyst and compounded tracking of student hours.
  • Support the ongoing maintenance of the S3 website to reflect timely and accurate updates.

Tutor Recruitment Assistance

  • Participate in the recruitment of tutors for PDC courses by creating and submitting position postings to Academic Personnel.
  • Ensure that tutor candidates complete the department approved application paperwork.
  • Participate in interviews to identify potential candidates that align with program goals and mission.
  • Provides the HEERA Manager recommended final candidates and ensure that appropriate staff members receive data to complete contracts and description of duties forms within timelines established by ASUA.
  • Provide lead work direction to new and returning tutors.
  • In collaboration with the HEERA Manager, assist in conducting on-going observations of tutors and develop additional learning opportunities for tutors to improve tutor capacity and quality of delivery of evidence-based learning strategies.

Campus Partnerships and Events

  • Work collaboratively with departments to build relationships with faculty, staff, and students (in the division and across the university) that foster student engagement with academic coaches and tutors as well as opportunities for program expansion.
  • Facilitate workshops (in-class and for campus at-large) which support student acquisition of learning strategies and skills that support student success.
  • Represent the Student Success Studio (S3) at campus events, presentations, and conferences.

Program Marketing

  • Assist with the development of marketing materials for distribution to students, staff, and faculty in collaboration with marketing staff in ASUA office.
  • Create student engaging content for the S3’s social media platforms as well as maintain social media presence.

Program Assessment and Reporting

  • Work collaboratively with ACE Director to ensure that student utilization and program satisfaction data is gathered systematically. Request program data and work collaboratively to prepare program reports in support of funding, sustainability, and continual program improvement.
  • Create both semester and end of AY reports to provide to ASUA leadership.

Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience

  • Experience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master’s degree in a job‑related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
  • Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job‑related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis.

Required Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of the practices, procedures, and activities of the college programs to which assigned.
  • Rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions, and programs of the campus to which assigned.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas.
  • Ability to interpret, apply, and explain program rules and regulations.
  • Take initiative and exercise resourcefulness in advising practice.
  • Ability to translate student development, leadership theory, and research into practice.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and in large groups.
  • Public speaking and ability to reason logically analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data.
  • Remains current regarding trends and developments in higher education, student development theory, high-impact practices related to advising, transition and student success.
  • Will remain competent and current through self-directed professional reading, the development of professional contacts with colleagues, attendance at professional development courses/conferences, and trainings, as directed, by the Director.
  • Works both independently and collaboratively to plan events, conduct presentations, host workshops, participate in orientation and more.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree highly preferred
  • Experience fostering and maintaining effective relationships and ability to work collaboratively across organizational lines and coordinate the efforts of multiple areas is essential.

Compensation and Benefits:

Anticipated Hiring Rate: $4,610 per month

Classification Salary Range: $4,610 -$6,556 per month

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 14 paid holidays a year. Work status: Full-time/Exempt/Probationary

Schedule: Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, weekends and evenings may be required.
