Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or master's degree is preferred, high school diploma or equivalent is required
• Must obtain Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) or LPC or LSW within two years of hire, if do not already have it
• Knowledge of the criminal justice system preferred
• Must possess strong computer skills
• Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening
• Adherence to the highest standard of ethical conduct
• Must be culturally/linguistically sensitive to populations served
• Ability to obtain and maintain clearance from Illinois Department of Corrections

Responsibilities:

Person in this position will be responsible for the delivery of clinical substance abuse treatment to clients participating in the program.

• Complete assessment of each client
• Initiate and sustain each individual’s motivation to participate in treatment
• Develop a comprehensive service plan for each client
• Provide daily treatment and curriculum-based education groups

WestCare is looking for substance abuse counselors for our program within Sheridan Correctional Center, located in Sheridan, Illinois. We are seeking candidates with certification/licensure plus individuals who are new to the field with a passion for helping others overcome their addiction and change their lifestyles. Our clients are individuals in custody within a medium-security prison. Graduates from Aurora University in Aurora, Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, Governor's State University in University Park, IL are strongly encouraged to apply.
