Position: Substation Control Wire Electrician

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The Substation Control Wire Electrician is responsible for completing project(s) that perform journey-level work in the installation, testing, repair and maintenance of Substation Protection control equipment and facilities used in the generation, distribution and transmission of electrical power.

This position is responsible for:

• Review and order project materials
• Fields project related questions and or concerns
• Ensures compliance and reviews weekly time keeping and other important reporting (T and E )
• Receiving guidance and or coaching from Foreman and Supervisor
• Learning and retaining knowledge from jobs and Foreman

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES ELECTRIC:

• Gain knowledge of BGE Construction Standards and SWP’s
• Reading and learning to interpret prints
• Effective communications skills
• Can take instruction without
• Can adequately perform work activities
• Reports any issues to Foreman

Gain Knowledge of:

• Safe Work Practices and procedures, methods, tools and materials used in the Electrical SP&C installation, maintenance and repair work.
• Mitigating risks, error prevention tools, job briefings and safety observations
• Safety equipment, tools, materials and supplies
• Principles of electrical theory related to electrical circuits and wiring systems.
• Construction and functions of a variety of electrical equipment used in power generation, transmission and distribution.
• O.S.H.A., M.O.S.H.A, and 1910-269 High Voltage Act
• Familiarity with governing bodies and regulatory agencies, policies and procedures applicable to assigned tasks.
• Safe practices pertaining to operating and working from ladders, aerial devices, bucket-trucks and climbing poles with high and low voltage lines.
• MADD
• LOTO (Lock-out Tag-out Procedures)
• Establishing Zones of Protection
• Equipotential Hazards
• Environmental
• Miss Utility
• Etc.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Environment:

• Mostly works inside of Substation Control rooms but is also required to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Works on or near energized high voltage equipment, at heights, and in confined areas. May be exposed to toxic/hazardous substances. Requires physical exertion and lifting or manipulating of objects that weigh more than 50 pounds.
• Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies/procedures.

Physical Demands:

• Must be able to regularly and punctually attend work at the office or other assigned locations.
• Operate a motorized vehicle, which may include inclement weather conditions.
• Operate standard equipment for assigned tasks.
• Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to include grasping, and reaching.
• Good vision to read prints and computer screens.
• Ability to hear and speak to communicate in person and over the telephone.
• Must wear assigned FR clothing and all personal protective equipment (PPE)

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma or equivalent;
• Must be able to pass all required training and access requirements

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

• Valid driver's license
• First Aid Card, CPR Certification

Pay: From $26.00 per hour
