CAMP COUNSELOR / SPORTS COUNSELOR

Job Title: Camp Counselor / Sports Counselor Start Date: 06/2/2023

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 5-36 hrs./week during summer camp operations

Reports to: Camps & Family Programs Director/Coordinator Pay Scale: $15.50 - $16.00/hr.

CAMP COUNSELOR / SPORTS COUNSELOR POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides direct supervision of a group of children aged 5-12 in summer day camp. Providing a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

CAMP COUNSELOR / SPORT COUNSELOR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Supervises a group of children with a creative, fun, positive attitude.

Run and facilitate a variety of sports and movement activities.

Adheres to program standards, including safety and cleanliness standards.

Attends staff meetings and trainings.

Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.

Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.

CAMP COUNSELOR / SPORTS COUNSELOR QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
2. Previous experience working with children, preferably in a day camp setting.
3. Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, archery, boating, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc.
4. At least 16 years of age.
5. CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications before the start date.

CAMP COUNSELOR / SPORTS COUNSELOR PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $15.50 - $16.00 per hour
