ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY
SUMMARY: The College of Professional and Global Education (CPGE) is currently searching for four motivated and experienced individuals who enjoy working with youth to serve as Summer Program Chaperones for middle school and high school students enrolled in the Migrant Education Applied Mathematics and STEM Program. Chaperones will work in teams and will supervise students 24 hours a day throughout the weeklong program. Chaperones will live with the students in the dorms and will assist the Program Coordinator with the overall safety and the day-to-day operations of the residential program. Chaperones will act as advisers to the group, enforcing all campus rules and regulations regarding proper conduct and safety, and will provide students with an enriching college life experience they will never forget.
ABOUT US: As the largest employer of students on the Cal Poly Pomona campus, the Foundation offers valuable work experience and hands-on training to approximately 1,500 Cal Poly Pomona students each year. The Foundation offers positions in various fields; whether it is in the area of technology, science, retail, culinary arts, hospitality management, leadership or research grants, these student employees participate in Cal Poly Pomona's learn-by-doing philosophy and acquire practical skills in their designated field of study.
The Foundation also contributes operating support to nearly 1,100 Foundation and scholarship programs every year, including Bronco Athletics and the Norman J. Priest Scholarship. In addition, the Foundation administers grants and contracts, contributes to campus security, and supports several university publications. The Foundation contributes over $1 million annually to Cal Poly Pomona.
SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):
Under the supervision of the Regional Coordinator and the Director of Business Operations, the Summer Program Chaperones will perform the following duties:
- Supervises students and interacts with program administrators, staff, teachers, and parents.
- Lives with students in the dorms for the duration of the program and acts as advisors to the group.
- Implements crisis and risk management procedures, when needed.
- Knows and understand the safety plan.
- Works collaboratively with internal and external groups to ensure the enhancement of the program operations.
- Participates in all activities with their groups, making the program fun for their students, teaching skills, providing encouragement, and support.
- Serves as a role model to teens by demonstrating high standards of personal conduct.
- Reports any illnesses, accidents, and incidents to proper summer program personnel.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Current undergraduate student or recent college graduate (not limited to Cal Poly Pomona students)
- Good academic standing.
- Working with middle school students in a camp environment or with high school students in an educational or residential setting.
- Tutoring in various middle and high school subjects (i.e. English and math).
- Supervising adolescents.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- College graduate.
- Conflict resolution/management skills.
- Knowledge of or background w/educational equity programs
- Experience, education, or training in crisis intervention, peer counseling or advising, child/adolescent development is strongly recommended.
- Previous experience working with teens in an educational or residential setting.
- Bilingual (Spanish) is preferred.
WE OFFER:
- Part-time, non-exempt, temporary assignment
- $17.00 / Hour including applicable overtime pay up to 75 hours per week
- Work hours are Sunday, 10:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.; Monday - Thursday, 6:30 a.m. – 10:30 p.m.; and Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Bi-weekly pay, plus room and board for each weeklong session
- Pre-program training during the week of June 5-9, 2023
- Training will include Cal Poly Pomona policies on sexual harassment, mandated reporting and the regulations of working with minors, as well as residential program logistics and daily operations.

PLEASE NOTE: Prior to employment, all individuals must complete and pass the Department of Justice background check and fingerprinting process. Negative TB tests will also be required.
