Support Services Specialist for Infectious Diseases
Job description
In direct partnership with the Iowa Department of Public Health’s Ryan White Part B Program, including the AIDS Drug Assistance Program, the HIV Field Benefits Specialists will deliver education, outreach and in-person assistance to Iowans living with HIV to select, enroll in, and maintain health insurance coverage. The HIV Field Benefits Specialists will ensure that Iowans living with HIV find their appropriate benefit home expeditiously. Attention to the particular communication, cultural, and linguistic needs of the population served. Travel will be required for this position. Duties to include:
- Provide Support Services to Clinical and Non-Clinical Departments: Meet with customers in person to explain HIV Field Benefits Specialist services and advise on reasons to buy health insurance, and options for coverage. Deliver general education about benefit programs in Iowa, including Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance. Determine eligibility for aforementioned programs and enroll if eligible; assist with application for premium subsidies and cost-sharing discounts; assist with the understanding of web-based decision tools to help narrow the choices for qualified health plans, and refer clients with appeals, grievances and complaints to the appropriate agency.
- Communicate/Collaborate with Internal and External Constituents: Work in collaboration with the Iowa Department of Public Health’s Ryan White Part B Program, including the AIDS Drug Assistance Program.
- Develop Programs, Policies, and Practices that Enhance Patient/Staff Environment: Provide input/suggestion regarding policies, practices and programs that improve services.
- Human Resources Management: Provide direction, assignments, feedback, coaching and counseling to assure outcomes are achieved.
- Financial Management: May analyze, monitor and report financial data, information and reports.
About Infectious Diseases
The Division of Infectious Diseases provides expertise in the treatment of infectious diseases in both inpatient and outpatient settings. In addition, the division also offers a broad range of research opportunities, including basic laboratory investigation, translational research, clinical trials, and clinical epidemiology. Areas of research interest include clinical infectious disease, antimicrobial pharmacology, hospital and clinical epidemiology, diagnostic microbiology, and clinical immunology. Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Travel is required. Must have a valid driver’s license plus the ability to meet the University of Iowa Fleet Safety Program driving standard (UI Operations Manual Part V, Chapter 19.5)
- 6 months - 1 year related experience with public and/or private insurance benefit coordination is required.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience with benefit programs such as Medicare and Medicaid highly desirable.
- Experience with the Affordable Care Act is highly desirable.
- Bi-lingual certification or 12 hours or more of specialized training in the field is desirable.
