Job description
APTech has an immediate opening for a hard-working, well-organized engineer to work on pavement sustainability and pavement resilience projects for the Federal Highway Administration and other clients. This full-time position will be located in APTech’s corporate office in Urbana, Illinois, and will require occasional multi-day travel. The successful applicant will bring experience in performing life-cycle assessment (LCA), a strong understanding of the impacts of climate change and extreme events on pavement systems, and a working knowledge of materials, design, and construction practices for both flexible and rigid pavements. Project work may include performing LCA studies, contributing to software development, developing guide documents and tech briefs, delivering training and technical outreach, and evaluating impacts of Green Procurement and Buy Clean policies. Additional opportunities for applying sustainability guidance are also available for state, local, and airport clients. Additional duties may include project management and business development activities in the sustainability area.

Job Requirements:
- At least 5 years of relevant experience.
- Advanced degree in civil engineering, with a concentration in transportation design and materials as related to sustainability.
- Knowledge of pavement materials and pavement design and construction practices.
- Experience with LCA studies, including data sources, data availability, interpretation, and reporting.
- Knowledge of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and current EPD programs.
- Knowledge of nationwide Buy Clean and Green Procurement policies.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) and good overall computer usage skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- The flexibility to travel and work the hours necessary to meet client needs and deadlines.
