Compensation:

Salary Range:

System Safety Spec.Trainee SS1: $45,674 - $51,876

System Safety Spec.Trainee SS2: $49,323 - $58,730

Responsibilities:

The incumbent will be responsible for assisting with NYC Transit-wide industrial hygiene programs including but not limited to: assists with the evaluation and monitoring of field operations to detect chemical, biological, and physical hazards; assists in the performance of field surveys to determine compliance with federal/state safety & health regulations and NYC Transit policies; assist in recommending task-specific engineering controls and personal protective equipment; assists with toxicological reviews of chemical products; assist with indoor air quality investigations; assists with the preparation of comprehensive reports on job task and exposure assessments and development of appropriate recommendations. This job requires excellent verbal, writing and organizational skills. The selected candidate must be available to work a flexible shift as needed, respond to on-call emergencies (in company vehicle), and possess a valid Driver license.

Education and Experience:

For Appointment to SS1:
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in engineering, fire safety, environment or occupational safety, industrial hygiene, safety management or a related field.

For appointment to SS2:
Completion of 1 year of satisfactory service at Step 1 or a Masters degree in one of the fields of study mentioned in '1' above.

Desired Skills:

The successful candidate will have knowledge of federal and state health & safety regulations, OSHA and NIOSH sampling methodologies, and other industrial hygiene practices and principles including ventilation. Must have familiarity with MS Word, Excel, and Access. Candidates with ABIH certification will be given preference.
