This position is responsible for the overall business unit capability by improving the performance of its employees through leading the business unit's organizational development, leadership development, people development and talent management strategies and processes around the globe.

  • The position's primary customers are internal. Typical internal customers include leadership (including Senior Vice President and Department Leaders) and various employee and leader contacts across the business unit in various global locations. The position is challenged to carefully evaluate challenges and review possible solutions before selecting one option to recommend. Problems may be complex and can require the incumbent to develop solutions. The incumbent sets priorities and establishes a work plan to complete broadly defined assignments and achieve organizational and leadership objectives.

Job Duties

  • Responsible for developing and implementing organizational effectiveness, engagement, leadership development and talent management strategies. Position should identify and help develop plans that allow strategic, tactical, and practical integration in the areas of organizational effectiveness, change management, Caterpillar’s Values in Action, talent management, and learning & development.
  • Develops and provides leadership, counsel and education in areas such as: team/work group interactions & dynamics, individual leadership development planning and general development planning input, new supervisor coaching and development, high performance work environment, cultural change initiatives, and employee/career development.
  • Monitors leadership development activities, such as the Know to Grow 360 leader diagnostic.
  • Facilitates development and delivery of employee development activities, such as divisional new hire orientations, onboarding initiatives and best practices, training, and coaching.
  • Help to clarify, measure, and positively influence consistent behaviors needed to achieve desired business initiatives and results. Contributes to division(s)’ learning strategy and aligns with Enterprise initiatives.
  • Responsible for leading career development efforts throughout division.
  • Manage the divisional Employee Insights Survey (EOS) process. Collaborate with HR Partners and the COE for the successful administration of division(s)’ EOS annual survey and pulse surveys. Provide direction and monitor divisional EOS action planning process. Coach leaders on individual action planning items. Develop/align divisional learning and development activities to support EOS action items.
  • Responsible for all budgeting, financial matters and metrics related to development and learning within the business unit including the accumulation, monitoring, and forecasting of learning costs.
  • Partner with COE, Division/Business HR to ensure effective implementation of Enterprise required learning and learning associated with implementation of global processes. Measure effectiveness of development and learning activities.

Basic Qualifications

  • College or university degree or equivalent experience
  • 5-7 years of progressively responsible job-related experience in Human Resources
  • Interpersonal skills in order to effectively deal with sensitive issues, develop others, or influence others to take specific actions

Top Candidates will also have

  • Experience using Workday, particularly as a Talent, Learning or Succession Partner
  • Content facilitation skills for various audiences including senior leaders
  • Project management skills in small to medium size projects
