Herzog Wine Cellars is looking to fill our new role of Tasting Room Assistant Manager.

SUMMARY

The Tasting Room Assistant Manager is responsible for ensuring the spirit of the winery is communicated with every visitor and oversees a welcoming tasting room where ambience and service reflect the essence of Tierra Sur at Herzog Wine Cellars. This encompasses describing the wines, winemaking techniques and winery history and effectively selling wine to customers. The Tasting Room Assistant Manager also identifies strategies to increase visitor count by directing, educating, and motivating staff to reach goals. The Tasting Room Assistant Manager is responsible for ordering and maintaining the tasting room supplies and merchandise. This position supervises the Tasting Room Associates.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs the following duties, but not limited to:

  • Schedules staff work hours and ensure each shift is covered to meet business needs; if Tasting Room is slow, ensure staff is sent home early;
  • Directs, educates and motivates staff to reach set sales goals and wine club signup goals;
  • Works closely with the Tierra Sur Restaurant to create and implement unique programs for special events and coordinate promotion of destination of events;
  • Create displays for sales and promotions;
  • Performs public relations outreach to the local community and act as the winery spokesperson at outside events when necessary;
  • Ensures that customers are served properly and in a timely manner;
  • Investigates and resolves customer complaints;
  • Continuously assesses direct sales priorities and needs to improve business opportunities;
  • Purchases and replenishes stock inventory without allowing items to remain in inventory for an excessive period of time;
  • Manages the execution of physical inventories;
  • Receives deliveries and check contents against order records and process any returns;
  • Assist with shipping and fulfillment of wine club and online orders as necessary;
  • Work with customers on bottle engraving as needed including: creating designs or outsource as needed, clean, maintain and calibrate machines, shipping and fulfillment of projects, maintain and track inventory;
  • Management of all cash and credit card funds and end-of-day-reporting.


QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience:
Minimum five years of relevant experience and in a wine tasting room, marketing, public relations, hospitality, or related experience is preferred. Two years in a lead or supervisor role.

Knowledge / Technical Skills: Duties require professional verbal and written communication skills; understanding of principles and practices of organization. Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook and experience with POS systems. Self-starter with the ability to organize and manage several projects simultaneously and exercise judgment in prioritizing and handling responsibilities. Strict attention to detail, responsiveness, sound judgment and proactive organization and planning skills.

Customer Service Skills: Internal and external customer focus, politeness, confidence, tact, patience and diplomacy while dealing with members. Professional Appearance. Excellent customer service, verbal communication and listening skills and the ability to deal effectively across all levels of the business organization. Ability to maintain a professional and courteous relationship with all members. Must meet deadlines and possess excellent, project management and decision-making skills.
