POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: 4K DPI Licensed Teacher, Academic Year 2023-2024
DEPARTMENT: Operations Department
REPORTS TO: Club Director
STATUS: Part-time, 25 hours per week, hourly, non-exempt, Academic Year Only
Hourly Rate: $22.00-$25.00 per hour
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
This position will work with preschool aged youth in a community based preschool program sponsored by the Verona Area School District (VASD) in collaboration with Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County. The 4K teacher will oversee a classroom of preschool aged youth (4-6 years of age) in a part-day licensed early childhood/afterschool environment with the typical hours of 7:00 am-12:30 pm or 12:30-6:00 pm Monday-Friday. Primary duties include planning and preparation, managing the classroom environment, instructing students and adhering to professional responsibilities. This position will implement the 4K curriculum provided by VASD. This position will work closely with the VASD Laison as well as the Club Director. This position will work directly with other VASD support staff and Boys & Girls Clubs staff. The 4K Teacher will support all youth programs (preschool, school-aged, middle school/teen) as assigned.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
Create and implement fun and exciting activities that inspire participation within guidelines as outlined by the Pyramid Model and other Verona Area School District approved curricula:
- inclusive of all members through flexible adaptation of programs and activities as necessary to meet the needs of members
- creation of developmentally appropriate lesson plans and preparation of necessary materials
- communicate positively and create relationships with members and families with support of Boys & Girls Clubs Management as well as Verona School District Laison.
- provide positive guidance and role modeling to members
Monitor and evaluate programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members (physical and emotional), quality in programs and appearance of the Club at all times.
- maintain safety by ensuring equipment and environment are appropriately maintained
- provide sight and sound supervision to members at all times
- apply appropriate positive guidance and child guidance techniques
- arrange program spaces to meet developmentally appropriate leaning environment standards
- maintain member attendance and tracking procedures at all times
- clean, disinfect and/or sanitize program materials and spaces
- adhere to regulations as outlined in DCF 251
- abstain from phone usage while supervising members
Ensure a productive work environment by engaging in professional behavior.
- participate in Club staff meetings and Verona School Area District meetings
- attend training and staff development sessions as scheduled
- maintain a strong work-ethic
- collaborate with volunteers and partner programs
- Complete appropriate reporting according to organization and grant requirements held by the Verona School Area District and Boys & Girls Clubs.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- May be required to participate in special programs and/or events
- May be required to drive Club vans
- May require occasional night/weekend/additional day hours
- Other duties as assigned to support the mission and vision of Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional, volunteer and partner programs), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/ instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.
External: Follows all policies and procedures as outlined in the employee handbook regarding professional behavior.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- 21 years of age or older
- High School Diploma/GED/HSED, required
- Early Education Degree or DPI Licensed for ages 4 and up, required
- Eligibility as a Caregiver by the Department of Children and Families
- Successful completion of drug test and physical examination.
- Infant/Child CPR & AED certified within 3 months of hire
- AHT certified prior to working with youth
- The ability and desire to work with youth in a variety of settings
- Strong verbal, written, and communication skills
Staff must be certified in one of the following ways:
- DPI Teacher License (Initial or Lifetime)
- Emergency Teaching License
- Ability and willingness to work toward a Teaching License
Required Hours:
The regular hours for this position will vary based on enrollment in the program. Working hours will be discussed upon hire. Holiday, weekend and evening hours will be required as project deadlines dictate. Must be able to travel to off-site Clubs, meetings and events.
Work Location:
This is a direct service position and reports daily to an assigned location. All COVID-19 mandated policies must be followed as posted.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Physical requirements: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and policy manuals. The ability to clearly and concisely exchange/receive ideas, facts and or technical information with others. Ability to visually monitor activities of club members. The employee is required to be able to perform CPR or first aid. The employee is required to use hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, climb or balance, and stoop, jump, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is required to operate a motor vehicle. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
