Basic Function
As a member of our dynamic team, you will be responsible for activities relating to the routine surveillance, maintenance and field operations necessary to preserve the safe and efficient operations of all related pipeline systems. This position will be filled as an Entry level to Sr. Pipeline Technician dependent on candidate qualifications.
Performance Objectives
- Responsible for personal safety, the safety of co-workers, including contract workers and the promotion of a safe work environment.
- Responsible for carrying out all work activities in compliance with state and federal environmental regulations.
- Perform safety orientations of outside contractors working on Equistar Pipeline facilities.
- Performs their duties in adherence with Lyondellbasell/Equistar & Equistar Pipeline Operations procedures, standards, and specifications.
- Take a personal leadership role in daily activities, task planning, incident investigations and work performance as they relate to the Lyondell/Equistar key focus areas of Safety, Environmental, Quality, Reliability, and Cost of operation.
- Provide accurate and timely communication to co-workers and supervision, and work with other functions to improve individual and team performance. Provide ideas, raise concerns, and promote an environment in which everyone is treated with respect.
- Serve and participate as a team member on committees dealing with investigations, policy and procedure development.
- Candidate must participate in the training and skill development of themselves and other technicians. Engages in frequent developmental dialog with their supervisor and others to continually enhance personal and group performance and development.
- Provide communications to the Pipeline maintenance department on equipment outages or potential problems that could affect the operation of the system. Working with the various departments on safety and environmental policies to maintain the integrity of the systems.
- Provide effective communications to interested outside parties regarding maintenance and construction activities.
- Must be willing issue all life critical & routine work permits.
- Must coordinate and direct contractors to ensure all work is done safely, effectively and correctly.
- Must be able and willing to work overtime as required and participate in On-call rotation.
- Perform area & perimeter security checks if asked to do so.
The Ideal Candidate Should Have
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Five years or more of pipeline experience involving pipeline operations, maintenance, construction and inline inspection of pipelines.
- Should have experience with excavation and trench safety; excavation competency is a plus.
- Aware of federal and state regulations regarding pipeline operations
- Cathodic Protection experience with a NACE Cathodic Protection Level 1 or higher is a PLUS
- Working knowledge of coating systems and Coating Inspection is a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, alignment sheets and other drawings as they relate to the construction, maintenance and operations of pipelines
- Ability to work as a team member to develop job plans, schedules and utilization of resources needed to implement the plans.
- Ability to work overtime as required to complete assignments
- Knowledge and experience of safety procedures
- Knowledge of basic pipeline operations especially those involving HVL and petrochemical pipelines.
- Knowledge of welding processes and welding procedures is a plus.
- Knowledge of repair methods and ability to apply underground coating repairs.
Preferred Qualifications
Pipeline Experience; Operational Knowledge; NACE Level II
