Position Title: Technology Support Specialist Base School: Baldwin Elementary/Intermediate School
Pay Grade: 19
Period of Employment: 12 months

Supervised by and/or Reports to: Coordinator of Information Technology
General Responsibilities: Provide technology support for all school-based
administrative/instructional computer activities.
Essential Duties:

Technical Support
- Provides technical support for the school building(s) assigned including:
equipment.
o Troubleshoots computer hardware, software, and peripheral system
problems.
o Coordinates with support vendors for repair and replacement services of
faulty/obsolete computer equipment and components.
o Sets up, installs, and tests new computer hardware and software
applications.
o Designs, implements, and reviews preventative maintenance programs.
o Responds to service requests and provides customer support in-person
and/or remotely via telephone, email, or other communication methods.
o Sets up, installs, and supports computer-based technologies utilized for
student assessment and testing.
o Interacts with Information Technology staff to install, troubleshoot, repair,
and provide reliable network infrastructure and services.
o Assist Information Technology staff in providing Active Directory accounts
and email, monitors network-based services such as home folders and
applications.
o Supports Instructional Technology Training Specialist assigned to the
building(s) in providing professional development and training to staff.
o Develops understanding of staff training requirements.
o Prepares written documentation to assist staff with technology use.
Local School Affiliation
- Attends all local school faculty meetings and makes oneself available to attend
- Attends all technology committee meetings for the school building(s) assigned.
- Researches and recommends upgrades, replacements, and new purchases of
labs, printers, servers, interactive presentation systems, etc.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Develops and implements technology policies and procedures as defined in the
- Tracks all work in the IT ticketing system.
- Maintains a current inventory of all technology equipment.
- Assists with information management in the administrative areas of the school.
- Communicates changes in network design services with ITS Staff.
Staff Development
- Communicates training needs of local building staff to the Instructional
- Provides staff with technical knowledge on how to perform basic tasks listed
Instructional Personnel as listed in the MCPS Technology Plan.
- Provides assistance to laboratory teachers learning to manage users and

Requisite Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of all installed instructional and administrative software.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills for working with teachers, administration, and
- Knowledge and experience working with Windows and Apple platforms, and
software, and cabling.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP networking; including network addressing, switching,
- Serve as role model.
- Ability to work flexible hours, as required to support systems and applications.
Requisite Education and Experience:
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree preferred
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience supporting computer hardware and
- Industry-standard certifications preferred.
- Must possess a valid motor vehicle license with a good driving record.
Physical Requirements:
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and
interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and
personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel
objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of
office related equipment, such as, but not limited to: a personal computer, calculator,
copier, and fax machine. Some significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching,
reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, or repetitive motions
required.
