Title I Instructional Staff Position Description

Service Areas: Chicago - Belmont-Cragin, Garfield Ridge, Hermosa, Little Village, Logan Square, Pilsen, and Ukrainian Village

Position Type: Part-time, Independent Contractor

Compensation: Hourly - Up to $45 per hour

Position Summary

As an instructional leader, the Title I Teacher is responsible for creating an engaging learning environment for struggling learners to “level up” by addressing skill gaps in Reading and/or Math. The goal is to help students improve academic performance, as measured by high-stakes summative assessments. Ideal candidates are:

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver small-group instruction in Reading and Math.
  • Plan and implement lessons using CSC-approved resources.
  • Prepare Personalized Student Learning Plans and Progress Reports.
  • Prep for and administer assessments.
  • Proactively monitor and record student progress, attendance and behavior.
  • Motivate students to achieve success using self-awareness and self-management skills.
  • Assist in Title Appeals and Referral eligibility processes.
  • Engage parents and classroom teacher(s) to ensure Title I supports regular day instruction.
  • Participate in select family/parent night events and report-card pick-up.
  • Participate in professional development sessions, as needed.
  • Record and submit accurate student attendance and work hours.
  • Adhere to Title I Compliance requirements.
  • Become familiar with and adhere to building safety and security practices.

Pre-contract/employment Requirements

  • Current and valid Professional educator license (PEL) or Substitute Teaching License.
  • Paraprofessionals may apply as Instructional Aides but must possess 3 to 5 years of classroom experience and a Paraprofessional Certificate.
  • Proficient in using technology including computer, projector, printer, scanner, email, internet and either Microsoft Office or Google Apps.
  • Able to pass drug tests, health screening, and background check.
  • Active and functional smartphone – must be able to send and receive emails and texts.
  • Current IL Driver’s License and a reliable vehicle with current auto insurance.

Position Qualifications

  • Instructional Lead: Bachelor’s in Education with at least 5 years of experience providing academic support to elementary school students; Master’s preferred and/or teaching credentials preferred. Instructional Aide: Associate degree with 3 to 5 years of classroom experience preferred.
  • Endorsement in English Language or Special Education is a plus.
  • Teaching in an urban education setting; working in a private school is a plus.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Background in one or more areas of Literacy, Math, ESL, and SpEd.
  • Blended learning approach using technology, preferred but not required.
  • Fluent in writing/speaking English (required). Spanish, Arabic, or Ukrainian is a plus.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Able to interact with parents, teachers, and school administrators.
  • Able to handle challenging situations.
  • A responsible, dependable, positive team player.
  • Ability to maintain records, prepare reports, and other correspondence as needed.
  • Able to travel daily to the assigned school location(s).
  • Projects a positive self-image of confidence in personal abilities.
  • Legally authorized for employment in the United States, without any requirements for employer-sponsored work authorization now or in the future.
