mLos Angeles Valley College (LAVC) is a two-year public college located in the heart of the San Fernando Valley, a thriving suburb of Los Angeles. The college's mission is to serve as a pathway to our students' success and career goals. LA Valley College is a 105-acre urban oasis just minutes from Hollywood, Beverly Hills, downtown Los Angeles, and the beaches of Santa Monica, Malibu, and major motion picture and television studios. LAVC is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, which is part of the Western Associate of Schools and Colleges. It is also one of the largest of the campuses in the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD).

Workforce Development Department

The Workforce Development Department works directly with community and industry partners to create employment and career advancement pathways for those Workforce Training serves. Current high placement Workforce academies include: Bus Operations Training Academy, Manufacturing, Biotech, Human Services, and Professional Extension offerings. The department also works to create customized training as needed by community and employer partners.

The Manufacturing Academy is a six-week training that prepares students to how to read blueprints and understand layout planning, how to operate conventional/manual lathe and milling machines, prepare yourself for the manufacturing workplace, learn how to use a micrometer, caliper and height gauge, and understand safety topics relevant to employment. The academy enrolls about 15 students in a cohort, and they are held quarterly or at the request of external partners. Each student will be guaranteed an interview with a regional manufacturing partners. The Manufacturing Academy has an 81% job placement rate.

Training Core Competencies and Skills

We are seeking instructors who can teach one or more of the following subjects:

  • Fundamental principles and practices of blueprint reading
  • Utilization of conventional/manual lathe and milling machine
  • Preparing the manufacturing workspace
  • Use of a micrometer
  • Use of a caliper
  • Use of height gadge
  • Safety topics related to Manufacturing
  • Application and Resume Writing
  • Interviewing Skills

Duties

  • Provide training at LAVC to students in the Manufacturing academy
  • Assess student learning and provide information to LAVC regarding student learning.
  • Communicate with LAVC staff involved in the project.
  • Attend training workshops and meetings as needed.

Time Commitment

Trainer presenters can teach up to 28 hours a week, depending on the subject and teaching assignment.

Qualifications

  • Vocational teaching or training experience
  • Two years of professional experience in manfacturing.
  • Ability to work with diverse student populations.

Job Types: Part-time, Temporary

Pay: $15.00 - $60.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • Day shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekend availability
