The Underwriting Manager position will encompass responsibility for product line underwriting excellence, producer management, and underwriting talent development. This person should have broad technical expertise with superior leadership skills across Property lines of business.

What will your essential responsibilities include?

  • Execute USA strategy and achieve budgeted metrics (GWP, Rate Adequacy, Commission, and other Portfolio Metrics) as set forth by product line management.
  • Work closely with the Property CUO of Americas to develop business strategies for future success.
  • Maintain extensive contacts with wholesale brokers as well as maintaining visibility in the insurance community thereby reinforcing AXA XL’s brand.
  • Manage insured and producer relationships throughout the assigned territory.
  • Maintain visibility in the marketplace by aggressively marketing to wholesale brokers.
  • Underwrite difficult, complex accounts and resolve issues beyond the ability of underwriting staff and within prescribed authority level.
  • Provide technical training to underwriting staff to increase skill levels and authority.
  • Lead and mentor a group of underwriters to engage, inspire and motivate them in the work they do and in developing their careers.
  • Review, monitor, and act as a referral underwriter to ensure accounts are underwritten according to company policies and procedures for Property.
  • Assist in developing, promoting, and communicating Company goals and values to staff including key behaviors, profitability, production and service issues.
  • Collaborate closely with Actuarial, Claims, Regulatory, and other departments to achieve underwriting excellence.
  • Support and drive AXA XL’s cross-sell objectives by understanding AXA XL’s capabilities across other lines of business and maintain open communication with colleagues in other departments.
  • Work with our Enterprise Operations team to ensure timelines of work processing including policy issuance, documentation, and implementation of the Target Operating Model (TOM).

In this position, you will report directly to the Head of Property North West region.

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 10 years US Underwriting experience – with at least 3 years in a management role
  • Demonstrated strong Underwriting discipline and regulatory compliance
  • Strong focus on operational execution (meeting SLAs for both timeliness and quality)
  • Proven record in Change Management with strong logical skills and the courage to challenge and question processes and content
  • Great sense of collaboration and working in a cross-cultural environment including Europe and India

The pay range for this position is ($ 118,500 – $ 233,000). Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual’s skills, experience and location. We strive for market alignment and internal equity with our colleagues’ pay.
