Unit Assistant - 8E General Surgery
Michigan, Lansing
- Provides routine patient/resident care services such as call light response; ambulating, transferring, and positioning; personal hygiene assistance, prescribed bowel and bladder program assistance, etc.
- Collects, records, and reports various patient/resident data. Reports changes in patient/resident condition.
- Provides general clerical support to unit such as answering the phone, data entry, and assembling, maintaining, and distributing various information.
- Transcribes physician orders and notifies appropriate parties of orders and consultations.
- Schedules procedures with other departments.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Successful completion of a health unit coordinator course or, high school or college course work in medical terminology and computer/data entry.
- Specialized education requirements, for those not meeting minimum six-month nursing assistance experience requirement, include:
- Prior nursing assistant experience of at least six months is required when the specialized education requirements identified above has not been met.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification as Healthcare Provider or equivalent through the Military Training Network (MTN).
- Six months of clerical experience in healthcare setting. Direct patient care experience.
- Computer keyboard skills and windows application experience.
Per Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations, all McLaren employees must be vaccinated for COVID-19 by January 4, 2022. The regulation permits exemptions for employees with qualified medical disabilities or religious beliefs.
