Since integrating into Lundbeck in October 2019, Lu-SBP has supported commercial launch of Lundbeck’s first biologic product (Vyepti) and advancement of a growing biologics pipeline in collaboration with our Copenhagen-based Process Science & Validation Team. The Lu-SBP team leads and supports the development of new product candidates from cell line development through commercial validation of Drug Substance and Drug Product manufacturing processes. POSITION SUMMARY
Lundbeck Seattle’s Center of Excellence is seeking a highly motivated and passionate Development Associate I to join the Cell Culture Development (CCD) team. The candidate will support Upstream Process Development activities and participate in cross-functional project activities to shepherd biologic programs from early through late-stage development, ultimately improving our patient’s brain health.
The successful candidate will work as part of a tightly coordinated team to screen cell lines, develop scalable mammalian cell culture processes in support of multiple pre-clinical programs with the ultimate aim of developing biopharmaceutical products for unmet medical needs. The Development Associate I is responsible for executing individual experiments related to all aspects of cell culture process development, including media preparation, bioreactor setup, cleaning, sterility and operation, equipment and instrument maintenance, data analysis, and report preparation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Key Responsibilities:
  • Understanding experimental goals and assisting with planning and execution of all aspects of bioprocess experiment execution using bench-scale bioreactors, shake flask and other cell culture vessels.
  • Coordinating and collaborating within the cell culture team and cross-functionally to ensure continuous timelines and workflows.
  • Sharing responsibility with the rest of the cell culture team for daily reactor and shake-flask sampling activities, which requires some weekend and holiday work.
  • Assisting in maintenance of and ordering lab supplies, media prep and equipment operation.
  • Recording data timely and accurately
  • Analyzing data with statistical software
  • Sharing experimental analyses through written reports and group presentations
  • Maintaining an operational and safe working environment in accordance with corporate standards
  • Performing other duties as requested in a laboratory environment

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
  • Accredited B.S. degree in Chemical engineering, Bioengineering, Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or other related field
  • Proven ability to identify and troubleshoot critical issues
  • Ability to:
    • Lift/carry up to 40 pounds unassisted/assisted
    • Work comfortably in a controlled environment with and around biological, infectious, and hazardous materials
    • Don appropriate PPE (Personal Protection Equipment)
  • Ability to meet deadlines while adapting to changing priorities
  • Ability and willingness to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as group needs demand
  • Excellent organizational skills and an ability to prioritize effectively to deliver results within reasonably established timelines
  • Strong working knowledge of basic chemistry and biology concepts
  • Knowledge of statistical concepts and data analysis
  • Proficiency with various MS Office programs, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
  • Industry upstream experience
  • Proficiency with SAS JMP Statistical analysis software
  • Aseptic processing technique
  • Experience with bioreactor operation

TRAVEL
  • Domestic and international travel up to 10% may be required

The range displayed is specifically for those potential hires who will work or reside in the state of California / Washington, if selected for this role, and may vary based on various factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and proficiency for the role. Salary Pay Range: $31.25/hour - $38.46/hour and eligibility for a 8% bonus target based on company and individual performance. Additional benefits for this position include flexible paid time off (PTO), health benefits to include Medical, Dental and Vision and company match 401k.
