Visiting Storyteller and Content Strategist

Reporting to External Relations and Communications in the System Offices, the Visiting Storyteller and Content Strategist will be responsible for developing and producing key deliverables in support of the Office of Strategic Initiatives. This role will require strategic, analytical, project management skills, and most importantly storytelling. This individual will gather information, produce a variety of documents, and apply both an analytical and creative lens to the work. The position will navigate a complex environment with many stakeholders to gather information, distill it, and turn it into impactful deliverables. This position will be required to generate deliverables for key projects and proposals as well as manage multiple project streams, prioritize, and meet tight deadlines.
Additional responsibilities include:
Strategic Storytelling and Content Production
- Create and produce various deliverables including presentations, written documents, graphics, and any other formats that are appropriate to tell the story for the intended audience(s), and will require strategic understanding of project or proposal's goals and objectives
- Determine storytelling and design requirements from project briefs
- Work in a dynamic environment with tight deadlines ensuring overall delivery without letting perfection hinder delivery
- Conceptualize visuals and deliverables based on requirements; prepare roughs and present ideas; iterate on feedback to produce final materials
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously and be able to decide on priorities
- Determine deliverable formats and display information in creative ways to include visual data
Data Collection and Analysis
- Participate in high level meetings to gather, capture, and distill information
- Work with system and campus units, faculty, students, and outside stakeholders to gather and record information
- Analyze data and translate to meaningful visuals, proposals, and written materials
Proposal and Project Management
- Create project proposals with the project teams
- Schedule projects and define delivery methods/channels
- Own the past, present, and future project lists to include telling the story around the work done, the work on-going and where we are heading
- Develop and maintain reports and progress of current project work in Asana project management system
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Journalism, Communications, Literature or related discipline.
Knowledge and Experience:
- At least four years of experience minimum, however, more experience is valued
- A passion for research
- Proven ability to write summaries from complex information
- Strong verbal and written communication skills including mastery of spelling, grammar, punctuation, sentence and paragraph structure and formatting
- Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills to prioritize work accordingly to meet stringent deadlines and to address matters of urgency while staying on task with other assigned duties and responsibilities
- Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment and discretion in the performance of all work assignments, and with handling documents containing confidential and sensitive information
- Demonstrated track record of writing and producing content for a range of target audiences
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs/applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- A keen eye for aesthetics and details
? Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite
? Experience with basic analysis of qualitative and quantitative data
? Experience translating disparate information into accessible compelling deliverables for various audiences
? Willingness and ability to perform at consistently high levels and to demonstrate initiative in the performance of duties
? Ability to exercise excellent public relations and customer service skills to people within and outside of the University of Illinois System
? Track record of using purposeful storytelling to drive organizational impact and business results

This is a full-time, 12-month Academic Professional position.
