Role Summary/Purpose:

The VP, Product Marketing manages marketing initiatives for an emerging payments product new to the portfolio. This role focuses on driving product usage and adoption through optimization of the enrollment/application experience and marketing messaging. Additionally, the role champions customer experience improvements and payment penetration rates through management of additional projects supporting Amazon Store and Secured cards.

Primary focuses for the role:

  • Coordinate marketing and UX efforts related to releasing the new product in market

  • Develop strong cross-functional relationships with essential groups (client: product, project & marketing teams; Synchrony: Cross-functional portfolio, central product/brand/legal teams)

  • Drive project collaboration and velocity by serving as liaison between key functions and players (portfolio team, across Synchrony, and client product/marketing teams)

  • Optimize the product’s customer experience design to match or exceed competitive best in class

  • Build product strategy to maximize synergies with other portfolio products

  • Ad hoc projects as needed to deliver against portfolio topline sales/account and product ratings goals

Essential Responsibilities:

Launch specific (initial focus)

  • Develop strategic launch plan based on internal/external stakeholder input, inclusive of deadlines and milestones for each team

  • Communicate goals, timelines, deliverables, obstacles, and dependencies to all teams

  • Coordinate with internal and external teams throughout the launch process to ensure everyone is on track; problem solve when a team faces a challenge

  • Track progress and hold all teams accountable for completing their tasks on time

  • Learn about all team abilities, schedules, and resource levels—anticipate bottlenecks or other issues early and proactively develop solutions

Ongoing (primary focus)

  • Develop growth strategy and initiatives to support portfolio goals and objectives - including but not limited to: account acquisition, profitability, and customer satisfaction

  • Incorporate client key growth objectives, strategic vision, and marketing calendar to gain buy-in on new initiatives and innovations

  • Maximize product contribution to the overall portfolio (e.g. Develop and test migration strategy for customers who use this product to other portfolio payment products)

  • Monitor key success metrics in partnership with Analytics and Product Owners; make recommendations for enhancements and influence internal and client partners to get appropriate prioritization

  • Lead Marketing initiatives that improve customer engagement and the application experience

  • Maintain relationship/networks/ability to influence across key functional areas within Amazon

  • Develop multi-level cross-functional internal network to help drive project prioritization and implementation speed (especially leadership within product, tech, and agile teams)

  • Provide guidance to Finance to assist with ongoing forecasts throughout fiscal year

  • Identify, prioritize, and solve unique business challenges

  • Special responsibilities as needed/assigned to drive highest business and marketing priorities

  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree. In lieu of degree, HS Diploma and 10+ years of business experience in credit card or financial services

  • Comfort in navigating new and complex environments

  • A minimum of 7 years of marketing experience to include:

    • 5+ years of demonstrated growth marketing leadership skills (analytic and creative) with significant exposure to digitally-based consumer facing programs/products

    • 5+ years experience with digital channels - online and mobile

    • 5+ years experience project management experience

    • 3+ years experience with digital marketing product development

    • 3+ years progressive marketing experience within a financial institution or online retail organization

    • 3+ years leveraging marketing analytics to drive strategy and prioritization

    • Strong relationship management skills, with the ability to influence and gain commitment at all organizational levels

Desired Characteristics:

  • Strong knowledge of digital marketing and servicing best practices and competitive space, i.e. online, mobile

  • Passion for evaluating and optimizing online user experience

  • High energy and strong results orientation (“Bias for action”)

  • Advanced degree (MBA/MS) preferred

Grade/Level: 12


The salary range for this position is 110,000.00 - 185,000.00 USD Annual


Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA, NY Metro and Seattle.

Some positions are bonus eligible.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • You must be 18 years or older

  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent

  • You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process

  • You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.

  • New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles. Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months’ time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles. Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 24 months’ time in position before they can post. All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don’t meet the time in position or performance expectations).
