Reports To: Workforce Development Manager
Supervises: This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities
The Workforce Development Specialist can handle high case load volumes, work under pressure, problem solving and thinking outside the box. The Workforce Development Specialist develops, coordinates, and implements individualized career development plans with job seekers. These plans provide comprehensive, case management activities which include scheduling training, providing job search and placement assistance, connecting with employers to locate open positions, identifying barriers, and collaborating with community partners to access outside resources.

Experience with Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Conduct enrollments and complete all evaluations and assessments applicable to a participant’s program enrollment.

Experience managing a client database, previous experience with Salesforce a plus.

Knowledge and understanding of motivational interviewing and strengths-based assessment.

Experience in community outreach and client recruitment.

Knowledge of community resources in the greater metropolitan area (Missouri and Kansas).

Confident, problem-solver, good listener, resourceful, takes initiative, works well on a team and independently.

Develop written career development plans utilizing the SMART goal method, inclusive of developing work skills and behaviors to support employment, training, and retention goals.

Reviews assessments, resumes, and other pertinent information to become familiar with a participant’s skills, abilities, and interests, and helps define and achieve their career goals.

Assist participants in conducting self-directed job search by providing job leads, job search tips, mock interviewing sessions, completing career exploration activities, developing computer literacy skills, connecting job seekers to employers, gaining access to phone, email, and low-cost/free devices and/or low-cost/free internet.

Ability to create and update resumes.

Provides case management and refers participants to Goodwill & partner programs to obtain certifications, apprenticeships and in-demand skills needed by employers.

Refer job seekers to partner agencies as appropriate to address any barriers to successful employment.

Collaborate with community partners to offer supportive services and connect participants to jobs and other resources needed.

Builds applicant sources by researching and contacting employers, employment agencies and recruiters, to find and fulfill employer’s needs, placing applicants in high demand, fulfilling good wage jobs that can support them and their families.

Follow individuals for 90-days after they obtain employment to ensure retention services.

Provides job related individual and group training sessions or career readiness workshops, as needed.

Conduct outreach at Goodwill locations, on Mobile Workforce Unit, or at other community partner locations.

Presentations to community organizations, agencies, businesses, or other organizations regarding Goodwill programs and services.
