Youth Development Specialist 1 (Night Shift)
LOCATION: HOST Program
HOURS: Part-Time | Thursday – Sunday, 12:00 am – 8:00 am
YOUR ROLE:
As our Youth Development Specialist, you will collaboratively and compassionately work with unsheltered and street-oriented young adults, ages 18-24 years. You will have opportunities to make a significant, positive impact by providing positive interventions, referrals to supportive services, and helping our clients achieve their goals. This position is responsible for providing direct care and supervision of youth staying in our overnight shelter. You will need to stay alert to all safety and security matters that may arise during a shift. Additionally, you will interact directly with the youth in the morning hours and provide emotional/crisis support when appropriate. Light cleaning and upkeep of the facility is required. Some additional duties pertaining to service documentation and compliance monitoring is expected.
Our HOST Program IN Action:
HOST provides safety, support, and resources for at-risk and unsheltered young adults. Our Daytime Resource Center is a safe space where youth and young adults can access basic needs and support services. Our Transitional Living Program is a multi-phase program for enrolled young adults, ages 18 - 24. Those enrolled in TLP have access to our staff and resources 24 hours a day and work closely with our Case Managers to set and accomplish their health, housing, education, and employment goals.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively with youth, staff, and community in a courteous, respectful, and professional manner with a thorough understanding of Trauma Informed Care.
- Provides oversight for the safety and security of participants in the TLP program by implementing, monitoring, and enforcing, program guidelines and expectations.
- Follows appropriate program/shift schedules to complete tasks, manage the program milieu, and encourage youth toward self and social responsibility.
- Assists in completion of all necessary written documentation, record keeping & reports during shift as required.
- Participate in service planning and other activities as directed by the coordinator and case managers and in conjunction with other community partners.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, sociology, human development, education, criminal justice, or related field preferred. Will consider an associate degree and/or relevant work experience (preferred 2 years or more) in the Human Services fields, as well as current students working towards a degree.
- Experience with at-risk youth preferred.
- Familiar with emotional, physical, and chemical dependency issues faced by at-risk youth.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of an integrated team.
- Valid Oregon Driver's License and proof of automobile insurance (this position requires driving, and a motor vehicle report is conducted prior to hiring).
