The Cathodic Protection Technician is part of the Asset Integrity, Chemical, and Corrosion team. Working alongside Facilities Engineering, Operations, Technical teams, Equipment Inspectors, and Production Chemistry Subject Matter Experts, you will assist in activities supporting cathodic protection installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, data management, and corrosion mitigation.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
- Conducts scheduled cathodic protection (CP) surveys of pipelines in compliance with the Department of Transportation (DOT).
- Conduct Close Interval Survey, ECDA, DCVG, ACVG, using Data Logger and applicable tools
- Conduct soil resistivity using Wenner 4 pin method and pipe to soil measurements.
- Experienced in installation and repair of test stations, RMU, and rectifier
- Performing and/or coordinating bi-monthly rectifier and critical bond inspections and maintaining the appropriate records/documentation.
- Performing stray current interference tests and correcting identified interference issues.
- Performing pipeline-coating tests and inspecting coating applications.
- Experienced in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Proactively conduct pipe-to-soil potential surveys, casing-to-soil readings, rectifier and bond readings, current flows on a pipeline, foreign pipe-to-soil readings, and all other structures under cathodic protection.
- Manage preventative maintenance scheduling of the routine management of impressed current and sacrificial systems
- Interpret CP data to identify emerging trends and take action by providing feedback to the CP advisor
- Examine and interpret regularly scheduled surveys to identify opportunities
- Utilize and incorporate HES standards/policies and Safe Work Practices in all CP work performed
- Collect, assess, and analyze data to identify emerging trends
- Ability to collaborate with stakeholders to provide a best-in-class cathodic protection
- Perform field surveys to evaluate the performance of cathodic protection systems
- Perform field survey work necessary to troubleshoot and identify problems with cathodic protection systems
- Assists in developing and implementing corrosion prevention strategies
- Assists in organizing equipment failure analysis report into easily shared and communicated learnings
- Regular travel to various field locations; this is a primarily field-based position.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- NACE Cathodic Protection 2 Certification
- Demonstrated direct experience in oil and gas cathodic protection systems
- Demonstrated direct experience with cathodic protection installation, assessment, and repair
- Demonstrated experience using data management software for cathodic protection- PCS
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated direct experience in the design of cathodic protection systems in the oil and gas industry.
