Job Description
  • Teach composition, creative writing, and publishing courses. The incumbent would be expected to
teach courses that would include but are not limited to English Composition, Introduction to
Creative Writing, Scriptwriting, Science Fiction/Fantasy writing, and Publishing courses.
  • Instruct courses in varied locations, at varied times, and via various media commensurate with
department and university needs.
  • Engage in scholarly research or creative achievement to enhance knowledge of field.

  • Provide evidence of continuing preparation and study in the field to enhance teaching abilities.

  • Contribute to student growth and development including student advising.

  • Support Minnesota State University Moorhead’s strategic priority of creating a campus community
that is diverse, inclusive, globally aware, and just.
  • Advise student writing and publishing groups and provide academic advising.

  • Teach a load of 12 credit hours per semester or 24 per academic year.

Required Qualifications
  • MFA and/or terminal degree in English Creative Writing or related discipline completed at the time
    of hiring.


  • No less than three years teaching experience prior to this application.

  • Experience teaching courses such as English Composition and Creative Writing.

  • Demonstrated experience with literary or academic publishing.

  • Demonstrated commitment to quality teaching.

  • Demonstrated commitment to diverse, equitable, and inclusive pedagogy, and an ability to work successfully with students, faculty, and staff of diverse backgrounds, including sensitivity to their
    needs and concerns.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Skills/ability to integrate technology to enhance learning and teaching.


  • Experience teaching Publishing courses and/or experience in supervising student publications.

  • Area of specialization in Scriptwriting, Science Fiction/Fantasy writing, and/or other genres.

  • Demonstrated experience collaborating across the arts and/or digital humanities.

Moorhead, Minn. and Fargo, N.D. are central to a thriving regional center with a population of 284,591 and growing for the Metropolitan Statistical Area (2020). Nine Month Faculty Appointments
Along with all other Universities that are part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System, standard faculty appointments are for 168 duty days distributed over any nine consecutive months. The nine months need not align with the traditional academic year and may be changed every two years. Initial faculty appointments at MSU Moorhead are expected to be similar to or the same as the academic year unless otherwise indicated on the vacancy notice.
