What you’ll be doing

Help feed our community by preparing and cooking the Co-op’s recipes from scratch. Ensure that finished products coming out of the kitchen meet the Co-op standards. Production team members are responsible for providing a welcoming and inclusive environment by offering great customer service. You will also assist with placing orders, receiving products, stocking, and maintaining displays.

Production team members report the Production Department Managers.

Location & Commitments

• Cordata Store, 315 Westerly Road, Bellingham, WA
• Full-time, Non-Exempt
• Starting pay is $16.50/hr (range is $16.50-$20.00)
• Hours and days vary, morning, evening, and weekend shifts will be assigned
• Schedules are posted at least 2 weeks in advance

What you’ll be responsible for

• Prepare soups, salads, and entrees for service case, GnG case, and hot bar and salad bar
• Provide friendly and welcoming service to customers and co-workers
• Awareness of all deli promotions and advertisements
• Merchandising the department to enhance shopping experience and maximize sales, including proper pricing and signage.
• Stocking, rotating, and facing product according to department procedure
• Maintaining back-stock areas according to department standards
• Receiving product and ensuring invoice accuracy
• May place orders as directed by the department managers
• Follow department safe food handling procedures
• Ensuring department sanitation, cleanliness and safety standards are met
• Perform other front and back of house duties as needed or assigned

What skills are needed

• Kitchen experience preferred, but not needed. Will train to Co-op Standards
• Ability to provide excellent, friendly face-to-face customer service in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to learn about specialty and prepared foods and interest and ability to gain knowledge of natural and organic grocery industry
• Ability to handle multiple demands, remain calm, think quickly, prioritize effectively, and problem solve within established guidelines
• Ability to work well with others in a cooperative environment where teamwork, compassion and constant communication are essential
• Ability to meet expectations of regular, predictable attendance
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, and weekends
• Ability to maintain current food handler card
• Must be at least 18 years of age

Physical requirements (with or without accommodation)

• Ability to work in moderate and loud noise environments including, but not limited to: paging, telephones, human voices, music, and machinery.
• Prolonged standing and walking
• Frequent reaching, bending, twisting, and rotating
• Continuous fine motors skills work and gripping with hands
• Ability to lift 30 lbs. often, up to 50 lbs. occasionally
• Repetitive tasks such as stirring, chopping, cutting
• Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals.
• Exposure to temperatures: Coolers, walk-ins, ovens/stoves
