Description

This position within Cat Electronics will support the development of embedded software for electronics control systems for diesel engine programs by testing and validating engine software, electrical systems, and engine-machine software interactions. This will require an understanding of engine systems and product features. You will serve as an experienced, individual contributor responsible for the design and validation of engine core and application software, controls, and diagnostics to enhance Caterpillar’s product performance, durability, reliability, quality, and serviceability.

Job Duties

Develop embedded software for electronic control systems by configurating, integrating and testing of software in a bench environment. This includes:

  • Requirements development and verification of software in a bench environment
  • Set-up and configuration of test bench hardware & software
  • Test plan creation, execution, and documentation
  • Evaluate and support development of new product features
  • Gather and document feature specifications
  • Provide customer support for machine / truck / engine system development
  • Aid and potentially lead, troubleshooting of software or system defects
  • Communicate technical information to internal customers, team members and other process partners; and support and advise other engineers, managers, and internal customers.
  • Support validation process improvements to aid in better quality and efficiency (i.e. automation and simulation)

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or Mechanical Engineering
  • 3 or more years of industry embedded software development or control systems experience
  • 2 or more years of software test experience
  • Demonstrated self-starter with strong technical leadership skills.
  • Must have ability to communicate technical information effectively with team members and others in the work group, as well as other units, customers, and suppliers.

Top Candidates will also have

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science
  • Experience with: Git, Clearcase, Trace 32 Debugger, CANape, CANalyzer, Cat ET Service Tool, CAN/SAE J1939, Matlab/Simulink
  • Experience working with dSPACE test equipment
  • Experience with C and Python language programming experience
  • Prior work experience with Engine or Machine System development
  • Prior work with configuration, integration, building of embedded software on diesel engine systems
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting electrical systems, diagnostic and event systems
  • Knowledge of Service tools, SuperCommII, Vector based development tools and displays

The location for this position is Mossville, IL

Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position.

This position will require less than 10% travel.
