Job description
There is an advancement opportunity in the Grounds Department. The position is under the direction of the Superintendent of Grounds or other supervisory official in the Physical Plant Operations Department which performs tasks involved in the maintenance of grounds.
Hours: Monday – Friday – 6:30 am – 3:00 pm
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- The Grounds Worker will be responsible for mowing, trimming, edging, pruning, and fertilizing lawns and shrubs, as well as landscaping and hardscaping outdoor areas.
- The Grounds Worker will also be responsible for removing weeds and debris, planting flowers and trees, snow removal and monitoring irrigation systems.
- Must be able to work overtime, including periods of mandatory overtime, as needed.
- Requires at least one-year of experience in work involving large scale grounds work, gardening and tree care operations.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions and lift up to 60 pounds.
- Ability to use a variety of lawn care equipment including mowers, edgers, trimmers, chainsaws and blowers.
- Knowledge of horticulture and landscaping principles.
- Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
- Appointees must possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey.
