Title
House Manager/Registered Nurse BMH Float Pool PT NIGHTS (Dual Role)
This is a dual role position. Primary role is as of a House Manager and secondary role is a in the RN float pool.
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with 3-5 years of clinical hospital experience with progressively more responsibilities required; Master’s degree in Nursing/HCA preferred.
  • Active nursing license in the State of Michigan required
  • BLS required upon hire and Advanced Life Support within 6 months of hire.
  • Completion of Hospital Incident Command courses IS-100.HCb, IS-200HCb, IS-200.HCA and IS-700.a and NIH Stroke certification within 6 months of hire.

  • Has the ability to maintain patient confidentiality, work independently and think as well as function as an integral team member with other healthcare professionals
  • Must be able to operate and perform basic computer programs associated with record keeping in the Department
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze data from various computer systems and equipment associated with the delivery patient care on the floors
  • Must be able to work as a team member and be able to communicate effectively with visitors, physicians, hospital personnel, and administrative staff; such dealings may often require the use of significant tact in order to handle sensitive matters
  • Work which is constantly and exceptionally tiring mentally and/or visually; conditions exist more than 90% of the work time.
  • Involves considerable standing or walking, regular lifting of light-weight objects (i.e., 20 pounds or less) and assisting with heavier tasks such as assisting in lifting and moving patients. Minor straining or fatiguing positions must be assumed, and some fatiguing physical motions are required.
  • Coordinates and oversees hospital operations, and provides administration direction.
  • Conducts regular rounds on all hospital departments and units, monitoring unit activity, level of patient care and assists with problem resolution.
  • Acts as mentor to staff and advocate to patients.
  • Provides analysis, assessment and intervention for problems requiring immediate attention and informs department managers and directors of problems and resolutions.
  • Investigates problems and complaints from patients, visitors, physicians and staff. And implements appropriate action and follow up Initial contact person for atypical events.
  • Conducts initial Assessment of event. Initiates appropriate action, ensuring stabilization of patient. Ensures notification of risk management, CSI and department manager and director.
  • Continually assesses hospital environment for safety concerns including patients, families, visitors and staff and takes action as appropriate.
  • Attends all Safety Check-In Meetings Monday – Friday. Leads Safety Check-In Meetings on weekends and holidays.
  • Collaborates with CCC operations and acute care leadership to identify process improvement strategies, reduce patient length of stay (LOS), trend delays, support quality initiatives and enhance patient safety
  • Coordinates placement of all admissions and transfers and communicates with Bronson First to coordinate all regional transfers and patient placement
  • Liaises with Capacity Command Center (CCC) team members and providers regarding clinical priorities and synchronization based on system needs.
  • Works with organizational leadership and work groups to foster change and process improvements with a focus on increased patient safety and efficiency in care delivery
  • Understanding of the alerts, trends, flags and information provided within Epic EMR and on the CCC dashboards; able to identify patterns requiring proactive strategies to assure patient progression
  • Monitors hospital capacity and provides hospital wide communication regarding level of occupancy; implements hospital surge plan as needed.
  • Collaborates with ER physicians and ER charge nurse when hospital is at capacity and manages throughput to avoid delays in patient placement and discharges.
  • Ensures clinical progression and addresses delays in discharges.
  • Triages barriers to discharge to optimize impact on hospital capacity and free up high demand beds.
  • Works with staffing office and bed planner to ensure appropriate placement of available staff, assigning or reassigning staff as appropriate to maintain safe, competent levels of care in all areas, including placement of sitters.
  • Coordinates communication with outside organizations or their representatives, including other health care facilities, law enforcement agencies and the media, relaying appropriate information according to established policies. Involves public relations in all media calls.
  • Manages the initial response in the event of a disaster, crisis or emergency situation and notifies the incident commander. Coordinates all activities until incident commander arrives. Communicates with outside organizations or their representatives, including information regarding bed availability
  • Ensures compliance with established policies and procedures, including Substance Abuse Policy. Ensures appropriate testing when reasonable suspicion for abuse exists.
  • Answers all calls for Employee Incident Hot Line after hours, on weekends and holidays. Provides initial triage and directs employee to ER as appropriate. Documents all calls on the Employee Injury & Illness Incident Report. Collaborates with ER physician to initiate prophylactic treatment of employees in the event of exposure to communicable diseases.
  • Oversees availability of supplies and equipment necessary for patient care and provides direction during shortages.
  • Provides direction during computer and monitoring downtime.
  • Identifies bed bugs in conjunction with EVS manager or designee. Coordinates notification offers management, facilities and Griffin Pest Control. Ensures room is properly sealed post discharge.
  • Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.
