Maintenance Repair Worker
A typical day in the life of a maintenance repair worker at HCDDS involves receiving and reviewing work order requests for facility maintenance and repair on a company-provided laptop and/or company-provided cellphone and traveling to various HCDDS facility locations to attend to those requests. Delivering revenue receipts to county administration office, unloading and storing boxes of PPE supplies, performing seasonal cleanup of building grounds, ensuring agency vehicles start properly and there are no issues with battery life, and attending to any other agency maintenance needs.
Job Duties (Summary):
  • Performs building maintenance, installation and repair tasks using hand and power tools (e.g., minor repairs to and monitors electrical system; assists with adjustments, repairs or replacement of temperature controls, air/water filters, compressors and motors on HVAC system; maintains doors, gates and mechanical locking systems; conducts inspections of systems; replaces light fixtures, switches or outlets; installs drywall; paints walls; refinishes cabinets; etc.); determines necessary repair or maintenance needs and submits recommendations (e.g., supplies needed and used, capital improvements needed, costs, etc.); performs on-going and preventive maintenance and repair of facility.
  • Performs various minor repairs on tools and equipment; maintains grounds and buildings as needed (e.g., mows grass; empties trash; clear facilities, plows snow; spreads salt; etc.).
  • Orders and dispenses tools and supplies; maintains inventory of tools and supplies; monitors expenditures of items purchased; maintains records.
  • May perform as working supervisor for assigned work crew of general maintenance for buildings and grounds; delegates tasks and ensures proper safety standards and methods are maintained; reports progress and problems to supervisors; monitors contractors and projects; determines proper work methods and procedures within defined work guidelines.
  • Travels to various work locations as needed; maintains valid driver's license.
  • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
  • Maintains positive relationships with staff, parents, caregivers, and other agencies.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Requirements (Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification):
  • High School Diploma or GED and three years of experience in a trade;
  • Advanced knowledge of facilities maintenance techniques, construction materials and tools, and functional supervision; or equivalent combinations of training and/or experience;
  • Demonstrable ability to perform physical labor; ability to travel to various locations;
  • Possess valid driver’s license and meets agency driver’s insurability requirements.
