Job Description
The Patient Safety Specialist's responsibilities include: Conduct root cause analyses and other types of improvement analyses, including FMEA and Common Cause analyses with teams; documents the process according to department policy and tracks action plans associated with performance improvement activities. Facilitates performance improvement activities related to patient safety with departments and provides subject matter expertise. Defines, collects, analyzes and presents data related to patient safety to identify trends and identify areas of improvement. Assists in classification, investigation, evaluation and trending of patient safety events. Creates and facilitates communication of patient safety activity across the enterprise, transparency, organizational learning and develops/delivers education on patient safety topics across the enterprise. Acts as a coach to colleagues in patient safety concepts and skills across the enterprise and produces/assists in the production of committee meeting minutes, reports and dashboards.
Qualifications
Degree in nursing or healthcare-related field
Bachelor’s degree in nursing or healthcare-related field preferred
Minimum of 3 years of recent clinical experience in the acute care setting as a healthcare professional or equivalent combination of education and experience, or Three (3) years in risk management/quality or performance improvement/patient safety in healthcare
Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) preferred. Must attain CPPS certification within two years of employment
Ability to work with a variety of disciplines and levels of staff across departments and the enterprise
Proven analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to produce reports, meeting minutes and update/change/make project plans
Flexibility regarding work schedule
Computer proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
License/Certification/Registration Requirements
California RN licensure, or other clinical professional licensure, preferred
Valid California driver’s license and proof of auto insurance.
Salary Range:
62.38 - 93.57 USD Hourly
