Job description
JOB SUMMARY: The Philadelphia Math Motivators Program Coordinator will be the primary contact person for The Actuarial Foundation (TAF) trustees and staff who are involved with the Math Motivators program. The Philadelphia Program Coordinator will be the primary contact person for the tutors, coordinate their logistics and communication, and manage relationships between the tutors, universities, high schools and The Actuarial Foundation.
The Program Coordinator will have guidance and support from the Program Manager and the Math Motivators Program Specialist to accomplish the following:
INTERACTION WITH HIGH SCHOOLS:
· Meet with high school principal and key personnel to discuss which classes need tutors,
which days, times and number of tutors each day.
· Ensure schools are a safe environment for tutors.
· Coordinate the communication and requirements of the high school’s volunteer and visitor
policy (background checks, forms to fill out, etc.).
· Work with the Project Manager and Project Specialist to gather feedback and data from
teachers and tutors to assess what is working and what is not for evaluation purposes.
· Implement and conduct standardized testing prep sessions.
· Mentor tutors, and lead by example tutoring (or coaching) 5-10 hours per week.
COORDINATION:
· The Program Coordinator will be made a system administrator of the VolunteerHub
volunteer management system.
· Create the tutors’ schedules and track tutor and student attendance.
· Email the schedule to the tutor, teacher, school administrators and university contact.
· Be aware of changes in school schedule and communicate the information to tutors
(snow day, PD day, other class conflicts, etc.).
· Become familiar with standardized testing, and if necessary, make modifications to the
prep course curriculum.
· Train the tutors on how to conduct standardized testing prep sessions.
· Use VolunteerHub to continually communicate (email and text) with the tutors.
· Submit weekly status reports (bi-weekly during off-season).
· Attend weekly touch-base meetings with the Program Manager.
· Recommend expansion efforts for the schools in your city and present recruitment strategy
for volunteers.
· Find and pursue partnerships in your city.
· Follow The Actuarial Foundation guidelines for expense reimbursement.
INTERACTION WITH COLLEGES:
· Work with head of Actuarial/Math programs to recruit tutors.
· Organize and conduct meeting to present concept and recruit prospective tutors.
· Work with head of program to send out days and times tutors are needed.
· Set up appreciation/networking for college tutors and actuary tutors.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
· Math content expertise
· Math tutoring experience
· Volunteer management experience
· Excellent oral and written communication skills
· Ability to make objective decisions using sound judgement
· Strong customer service acumen

· Standard office equipment
· Ability to travel weekly to the school/s
Pay: $25.00 per hour
Schedule:
