RCMF CRD LABORATORY LEAD - CORK, IRELAND
ROLE SUMMARY
The successful individual will lead the Chemical Research and Development (CRD) laboratory function of the newly established Ringaskiddy Clinical Manufacturing Facility (RCMF).
CRD, as part of Pharmaceutical Sciences Small Molecule within Worldwide Research and Development and Medical, is responsible for the development of process technology for the production of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API).
The RCMF CRD Laboratory Lead will recruit a team of chemists and chemical engineers and establish a batch and continuous development laboratory. They will support the technical transfer of batch and continuous processes in to RCMF manufacturing facilities, support clinical manufacturing, ensure effective troubleshooting and support quality by design for regulatory and commercial execution. They will interface between Groton, Sandwich and Ringaskiddy CRD operations and ensure effective transfer of processes in to Ringaskiddy commercial facilities.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
The position will require the successful candidate to:

Establish the CRD laboratory operations inclusive of recruitment, training, capital procurement and workflow.

Supervise technical transfer of processes from Groton and Sandwich laboratories and the Groton Kilo Lab in to the RCMF manufacturing facility.

Ensure laboratory support of plant operations through set up of laboratory scale batch and continuous unit operations.

Ensure effective integration of continuous unit operations in the laboratory and plant.

Provide troubleshooting for plant batch and continuous manufacturing operations.

Provide process safety support.

Provide laboratory automation expertise and support of digital twins, modelling and quality by design development of continuous processes.

Supervise technical transfer of processes from the RCMF to Ringaskiddy commercial production facilities.

Partner with analytical colleagues to ensure effective integrated process analytics and control.

Provide plant support through a fungible workforce, integrated in to RCMF plant operations.

Provide support for digital initiatives and new technologies
Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

PhD degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering or equivalent with 10-15 years' pharmaceutical development experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
-
PhD degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with 15-20 years’ experience in process development, including continuous development and manufacturing, process design and control strategy.

Experienced with GMP manufacturing operations and requirements.

Experience with regulatory requirements of the pharmaceutical industry.
This role is very interactive and requires significant collaboration and communications with scientists at sister locations in Groton, USA and Sandwich, UK. In addition, effective collaboration with site colleagues will also be required.
An initial training period requires that the successful candidate spend several months in Sandwich and/or Groton. This is anticipated to be during the building of the facility. We will work with the successful candidate to afford some flexibility in this regard in so far as is practical.
After the initial training period, some accommodation to time zone differences and up to 20% travel is anticipated.
