Overview:
The Orthopedic/Neurology (Ortho/Neuro) 7th floor is a 35-bed unit where growth and learning opportunities continue as licensed staff achieve their NIH Stroke Scale certification built into nursing orientation. Staff use a variety of their assessment and nursing skills plus tend to build longer patient relationships and work easily with different teams (nursing and therapy teams). The average patient mix is 75% Orthopedic/Neurology patients and 25% medical surgical overflow. The unit is supported by a team consisting of the Unit Secretary, Patient Care Technicians, Transporters, Nutrition Ambassadors, RN's, RN Shift Supervisor's, a Clinical Educator, the Nurse Manager and Director along with a strong Physical and Occupational Therapy presence working as a cohesive team to ensure excellent patient care.

Current Texas LVN or RN license
CPR certified from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required

Responsibilities:
The
Registered Nurse is accountable for the health status and health needs of their patients based upon interpretation of health data and preventative health practices in collaboration with the patients and the interdisciplinary healthcare team members.
Job Duties:
- Record patients' medical information and vital signs.
- Administer medications to patients and monitor patients for reactions or side effects.
- Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records.
- Monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in patients' conditions.
- Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans.
- Direct or supervise less-skilled nursing or healthcare personnel or supervise a particular unit.
- Monitor all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity.
- Instruct individuals, families, or other groups on topics such as health education, disease prevention, or childbirth and develop health improvement programs.
- Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions.
- Conduct specified laboratory tests.
- Observe nurses and visit patients to ensure proper nursing care.
- Prepare patients for and assist with examinations or treatments.
- Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient's condition
Education/Licensures/Certifications:
Current Texas LVN or RN license
