Job description
The Marketing and Media Relations Office for Piedmont Virginia Community College seeks a Senior Marketing and Communication Specialist to support College campaigns and promotions. This position serves as a member of the Marketing and Media Relations team, which currently consists of specialists covering the areas of graphic design, multimedia design and marketing outreach. The position works collaboratively with the Director of Marketing and Media Relations and all team members to promote and manage the reputation of the College brand and engage prospective students and the community through a variety of strategies. The Senior Marketing and Communication Specialist is responsible for carrying out the daily operations of the marketing office, with a focus on social media and specialized communication support through the creation of written digital content including, but not limited to, social media, designed/targeted emails and digital newsletters. The position assists with the coordination of press and emergency communications, as well as special event and program communications. The Senior Marketing and Communication Specialist contributes to written and digital content and messaging including, but not limited to: print pieces like brochures and flyers, digital communications including designed email, social media and web, and other campaign components as assigned.
The Senior Marketing and Communication Specialist will:
- Cover and maintain all official College social media accounts and manage scheduling and posting of campaign and engagement content, and tracking and reporting on analytics.
- Create and distribute electronic marketing emails to targeted mailing lists using Constant Contact.
- Help maintain consistency across integrated campaigns.
- Liaise on special events to capture engagement collateral for social media and other shares.
- Provide service to areas across the College as requested by the director.
- Support the marketing team in maintaining the College brand.
- Work in support of the school’s mission and values, ensuring all work supports strategic goals.
- Creating and implementing integrated campaign messaging
- Further development of strategy for – Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter
- Monthly reporting on all channels – using analytics to drive decision making on future campaigns
- Research and market knowledge
- Internal newsletter (Panther Press) – weekly development and distribution
- Outreach promotions support – using Constant Contact for design and distribution
- Internal short circuit TV posts – Pi signage coordination
- Targeted enrollment email blasts – Constant Contact
- Web page edits and uploads – Drupal 9 CMS
- Assisting Director with campaign development and coordination
- Project Coordination
- Reports – research and reporting
- Writing, proofing and editing
- Photoshoots
- School-wide initiatives
- Department/program area projects
We will begin to review applications and resumes on May 12th.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing or communications, or equivalent combine education and experience.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in social media management representing a brand or organization.
- 2+ years’ experience in a marketing, business development, communications, or similar role.
- Ability to define a target and develop positions, messaging, features, benefits and value propositions.
- Aid in the development of compelling content that is targeted to specific audiences and aligns with business goals.
- Demonstrated proficiency with the use of social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram.
- 2+ years’ experience working with digital content management platforms for social media, email and web.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Effective collaborative problem-solving skills.
- Strong copy writing and editing skills with keen attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a high volume, fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams)
- Strong interpersonal skills to help engage, provide support to, and motivate students and staff.
- Excellent customer service skills to include the ability to effectively follow up and follow through.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize and successfully meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated conceptual and strategic thinking.
- Development and execution of social media campaigns to drive website traffic and customer engagement.
- Exceptional understanding of the social media landscape, best practices, and social analytics tools and metrics.
- Experience successfully managing multiple projects and collaborating with multiple stakeholders and teams.
- Proficiency in setting up and managing social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter.
- Researching, tracking, analyzing and reporting on campaign metrics to guide improvements of future campaigns.
- Understanding of integrated marketing and multimedia implementation across platforms.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Knowledge of web design and digital accessibility guidelines.
- PowerPoint expertise.
- Proficiency in Adobe InDesign/Photoshop/Reader software.
