Overview:
The Information Technology Services Division at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) invites applications
for the position of Software Asset Management Specialist in the Client Technologies Team. The team manages 15K+ client and server systems in a highly dynamic research community utilizing many configuration management tools. This position will focus primarily on the maturation of our software asset program.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Design, engineer, and maintain centralized software asset discovery and normalization tools (Flexera Data Platform)
- Through analysis of existing software assets, prioritize actions to mature software lifecycle management, standardization, security, ease of acquisition, and ROI.
- Work closely with the systems management team to optimize automated solutions for enhanced monitoring and deployment/removal of software assets as needed.
- Work closely with Procurement for contract negotiations related to software licensing by providing supporting data and information related to software licensing
- Assist ORNL leadership and users in learning and understanding software compliance and risks through multiple communications channels.
- Continue to plan and justify the maturation of the software asset management program, building roadmaps and ROI justifications for its continued growth, presenting them to leadership for steps forward.
Basic Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in a computing, engineering, or science-related discipline and five years of relevant technical experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience with Flexera FlexNet Manager, App Portal, and/or Data Platform.
- Experience with software management monitoring and management options (metering, deployment, removal, etc.) for each operating system platform.
- Experience with Cloud/Virtualization/Containerization technologies (VMware, XenApp, XenDesktop, Azure, AWS, AppV, Kubernetes, etc.)
- Experience in security vulnerability assessment and remediation using industry standard tools to analyze IAVM/CVE/CIS findings.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a science or technology environment is desired
- Certifications in Software Asset Management and/or experience in ITAM/ITSM solutions.
- Ability to learn and maintain updated knowledge of various Tier 1 vendor license models (Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, VMware, Adobe, ServiceNow, etc…) and the ability to interpret software contracts/EULA’s
