WORK SCHEDULE: Mon-Fri 8am-5pm, occasional evenings and weekends

STARTING PAY: $30,000-40,000/year commensurate with experience

ABOUT THIS JOB:

Responsible for the retail operations at the KU Bookstore-Satellite Locations (Burge, Union, Wescoe, Chalmers Hall). Supervises all part-time employees. Ensures staff properly hired & trained in register operations & customer service, assuring a high level of service to all KU Bookstore patrons. Assists with selection, transportation, display and sale of merchandise; handles register, cash bag, bank deposits and documentation. Maintains regular contact with applicable departments and staff members at the KU Bookstore. Requires evening and weekend work on occasion. Responsible for oversight of the facilities, initiating repairs when necessary.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED & GIVEN:

Receives direct supervision from the Retail Operations Manager- KU Bookstores. Directly supervises part-time personnel at the Hawk Shops.

DETAILS:

· Supervises daily operations of the listed Satellite Locations – Union Hawkshop, Burge Union Hawkshop, Underground Hawkshop & The Shop at Chalmers Hall. Promptly reports concerns involving appearance, security, maintenance, etc. to the appropriate KU Bookstore or University personnel. Ensures proper money management. Buys, transfers and invoices Consumables and Health & Beauty products sold in all KU Bookstore locations. Ensures accurate system information to aid in ordering and inventory control. Analyzes merchandise for sell through and profitability.

· Maintains proper product levels at all supervised locations. Works with vendors to keep products in stock. Follows WPS operational policies and procedures. Follows health, safety, and sanitation guidelines. Maintain daily logs and ensures correct product rotation to prevent products from expiring. Transfers product between stores based on inventory levels and sales reports. Participates cycle counts at all supervised locations; reviews and resolves inventory discrepancies.

· Ensures staff provides excellent customer service and is well trained on registers operations procedures. Visits stores daily, observing and coaching to customer service opportunities.

· Supervises part-time staff; responsible for hiring, scheduling, and training. Resolves issues involving unscheduled absences. Monitors attendance and compliance with HR and store policies.

· Schedules routine visits based on delivery schedules, building activities, and traffic patterns at each location. Maintains organization and effectively prioritizes daily tasks.

· Responsible for resolving issues involving the daily operations of each location. Communicates issues with Retail Operations Manager and partners on resolution, as needed.

Additional Responsibilities:

· Remains knowledgeable of the overall operation of the store to assist customers with general questions.

· Participates in opening and closing routines as scheduled.

· Stocks merchandise and operates a cash register as required.

· Maintains store write-off, damage, and requisition documentation.

· Maintains all Human Resources reporting and paperwork. Coach and counsel staff; sets expectations and follows through. Initiates and leads ongoing customer service training.

· Participates in meetings and training sessions as needed at Memorial Union.
Other duties as assigned by the Retail Operations Manager.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. General knowledge of office machines.

2. Knowledge of general mathematics.

3. Ability to work with the public in a retail sales situation.

4. Ability to work well with other employees.

5. Ability to stand for long periods of time.

6. Ability to do moderately heavy lifting.

7. Ability to operate a ten-key calculator.

8. Ability to handle money and make change accurately.

9. Skills to effectively communicate with students, faculty, staff, and with coworkers.

10. High School graduation.

11. Previous experience in retail merchandising and supervising personnel.

12. Experience with computerized business applications.

13. Verifiable skills in quality customer service.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Experience with point-of-sale retail merchandising.

2. Experience in college store or private bookstore.

3. College or technical training in business or computer management.

Full-time employment with the Union Corporation is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check prior to being able to begin work. This position is eligible for an employee referral bonus.
