Basic Purpose of the Job
Under general supervision and direction of the Administrative Commander and Code Compliance Officer. Performs a variety of assigned duties and responsibilities involved in rectifying zoning code violations throughout the City of Montrose. Learns and adheres to safety standards.

Physical Demands: Requires ability to perform heavy manual labor. Strenuous physical work requiring ability to lift fifty (50) pounds; frequent lifting, carrying, walking and standing, hand/eye coordination for operation of equipment; vision for reading and preparing letters and written reports; frequent speech communication, hearing and listening to maintain communications with employees and citizens.
Work Environment:Outside work, with exposure to outside elements. Requires walking and driving during inclement weather. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, twist or crawl. Frequent exposure to loud noise and airborne particles.

  • Performs assigned duties that may include but are not limited to the cutting and trimming of weeds and other vegetation; removal of junk and debris; painting over or otherwise removing graffiti; removal of snow from walkways; removal of illegal signage.
  • Operates maintenance equipment including mowers and power tools. Follows safety regulations in accordance with city guidelines. Practices proper safety precautions related to all work performed. Practices proper safety precautions related to all work performed.
  • Duties may include researching property ownership records, notifying affected property owners, and/or physically performing the work to remove said violations.

Ability to calculate basic math
Ability to interpret and follow instructions
Ability to safely operate power equipment and hand tools
Ability to work independently without supervision
Able to work flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends during peak season.
Ability to comply with safety standards.
Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision.

Licensures & Certificates (must be active and current.)


  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Previous experience in similar position preferred.
  • Experience operating mowers and tractors is desirable.
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

Supplemental information

28 hours per week for 21 weeks.
